Sibyl Cochran Jameson
Anderson, SC - Sibyl Cochran Jameson, 100 years old, died January 11, 2015, in Raleigh, NC. She was the daughter of the late Leland and Icey Cochran.
She is survived by her daughters Irene Neely (Gardner) and Betty Donaldson (Alan), by her grandchildren Heidi Priu (Paul) and Robert Donaldson, and by her great grandchildren Katharine and Julia Priu. She is also survived by her brother, Lenwood Cochran.
Preceding her in death were her husband A.O. Jameson, her sisters Evelyn Ford, Sara Burriss, Reba Moore, and Lucia Glenn, and her brothers Floyd Cochran and Lee Cochran, Jr.
Her life was one of service and dedication to others. Her nursing skills and quiet manner helped many patients throughout her long career.
She was a dedicated church worker, spending many hours teaching Sunday school and encouraging Girls Auxiliary programs.
Girl Scouting was a favorite activity in which she participated for 60 years. She received an award for her Girl Scout dedication in 1986.
After retiring from school nursing, Hospice of the Upstate became a passion for her. In 1989 she received the United Way Volunteer Service award for outstanding service to Hospice. In 1992, she was the Anderson Hospice volunteer of the year.
For her community service, she was recognized by two Sertoma Club awards, Woodman of the World award, and Anderson Rotary Club award.
In 1959 she was the Anderson Business and Professional Women’s Club Woman of the Year.
2005 brought the Pointing the Way award from the Anderson Independent Mail.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Anderson, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
