GAYLE SANDERS CANN

May 7, 1946 – November 29, 2012

Mrs. Gayle Sanders Cann, age 66, of 114 Gary Road, entered into her Heavenly home on Thursday, November 29, 2012, when she passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family.  Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Robert Cody Sanders and the late Eula Cox Sanders.  For forty five years until her death, she was the loving and devoted wife of Gary T. Cann of the residence.

Gayle attended T. L. Hanna High School and graduated from Forrest College with an associate’s degree in the paralegal field.  During her professional career, she was a guardian ad litem, a role in which she was an advocate for disadvantaged children within the court system.  In that role, she had a profound impact on the lives of many young people who perhaps did not have a voice.  Mrs. Cann was a very unselfish and giving person who truly put others before self.  She loved her family dearly and was devoted to her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren.  Gayle was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.

Survivors left to carry on her legacy in addition to her loving husband, Gary, are her 4 daughters, Dawn Owens, her husband Michael, of Pendleton; Michelle Gambrell and husband Brian, of Starr; Gloria Cann of Central; and Julie Cann Culbreth and husband, Kevin, of Lyman.  Also surviving are a sister, Patricia Dyar and her husband, Henry, of Anderson; 5 grandchildren, Hadley and Shannon Owens, Bryce Gambrell, Jarek Cann, and Tabitha Culbreth.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Sanders, and a grandson, Jamie Owens.

A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Cann will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 2 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Mahaffey and Rev. Willie Honea officiating.  The family will be at the home of Michelle and Brian Gambrell, 300 Miriam Road, Starr, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
