GUY LEE SIMPSON

March 13, 1923 – November 25, 2012

Mr. Guy Lee Simpson, age 89, of Live Oaks, Florida, passed away peacefully at Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness.  Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Wales T. Simpson and the late Mary Blanche Taylor Simpson.

As a child growing up in Anderson, he worked hard on the family farm with his father and 11 siblings.  At the age of 16, he made the decision to join the Army and went on to fight for his country.  Mr. Simpson served in the United States Army during World War II as a corporal, where he received the Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal. He then served three years in the United States Air Force with distinction as a Staff Sergeant in Japan.  The discipline and patriotism he learned in the military never left him, as friends and family will attest.  After receiving an honorable discharge, Guy opened a business on Lake Hartwell, GA.   He was a loyal and devoted son and spent much of his time caring for his mother until her death.  Later he moved to Florida where he went into hotel management until his retirement.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Jane Simpson Campbell and 12 nephews and 11 nieces.  Preceding Mr. Simpson in death are 6 brothers, Jackson Simpson, Louie Simpson, Weldon Simpson, Marvin Simpson, Calvin Simpson and Delbert Simpson; and four sisters Hazel Simpson Lollis, Cecile Simpson Jaynes, Callie Simpson, and Sara Simpson Book.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Guy Simpson will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 2 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating.  Interment will follow in the family plot at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from 12 Noon until 1:30 PM.

Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, 1601 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608.
