JOEL PARNELL

AUGUST 11, 1949 – DECEMBER 20, 2011 

ANDERSON, SC – Joel Dennis Parnell, age 62, husband of the late Susan Ellison Gracely Parnell, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born August 11, 1949, in Anderson, SC, he was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and Clemson University. Mr. Parnell retired as an Administrator from the Department of Social Services after thirty-three years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Hazel Ethridge Parnell Brown; sons: Graham Logan Parnell and Joseph Tyler Parnell; sister, Martha Shaw; and two grandchildren: Alexandria Susan Parnell and Joshua Elijah Parnell.  In addition to his beloved wife, he was predeceased by his father, Joe F. Parnell; and a sister, Frances Weyman. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, December 23, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Paul D. Frey.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home, 2707 East North Avenue, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1pm until 2pm on Friday, prior to the service. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Foster Children’s Fund of DSS, P.O. Box 827, Anderson, SC 29622, or to Thornwell Children’s Home, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29635.
