MRS. JANIE RUTH HANKS

July 14, 1922 – September 26, 2010

Anderson, SC- Mrs. Janie Ruth Hanks, wife of the late James Edwin Hanks, Sr., of 311 Concord Avenue, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 while residing at Talmadge Terrace Retirement Center in Athens, GA.

Mrs. Hanks was born on July 14, 1922, as one of the daughters of the late Harvey G. McClellan and Della Keasler McClellan. All were lifelong residents of Anderson County. She graduated from Girls High School in 1940. Mrs. Hanks was well known in the Anderson community for her beautiful needlework and knitting talents. She was a career employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company. After her retirement, she remained very active with the AT&T Telecom Pioneers. She was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church. 

Survivors include her son, James E. Hanks, Jr. and his wife Bonnie, of Athens, GA;  grandson, James Edwin Hanks, III and his wife Katie, and daughter Amelia Ann, of Athens, GA; granddaughter, Jane Ellen Hanks of Athens, GA; granddaughter, Julie Elizabeth Hanks Marsh, and her husband Edward Clark Marsh of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Willie McClellan of Belton, SC and Joe McClellan of Anderson, SC; and sisters, Ann Manley and Eunice Robertson , both of Anderson, SC.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hanks was predeceased by her husband, four brothers, and two sisters.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Noon at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Bill Rigsby of North Anderson Baptist Church officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: James Edwin Hanks III, Edward C. Marsh, Wayne Logan, Ryan Logan, Tim Sorrells, Mike Horne, Bill Robertson, Jerry Robertson, Dale Robertson, and Wayne Wells.

The family will receive friends following the service in the mausoleum chapel.

Memorials may be made to North Anderson Baptist Church, 2308 N. Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621.                                   .
