ANDERSON -- Dewey Herman Pearson, Jr., 76, ended a battle with cancer peacefully in his home March 27, 2010. He was born in Orangeburg, SC to the late Raiford Williamson Pearson and Dewey Herman Pearson Sr.

He is survived by his wife Betty Fowler Pearson, of Anderson; son John Dewey Pearson and his wife Dana, of Roswell, GA; son J. Michael Pearson MD and his wife Pamela, of Lake Oswego, OR; and six grandchildren.

Dewey was faithful to God and country and was a dedicated member and elder of Roberts Presbyterian Church. Dewey was a Professional Engineer who attended Clemson University. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of SC, and a BS in Meteorology from Penn State University. He then served in the US Air Force with a tour of duty in Japan.

His career included 13 years as a meteorologist with American Airlines, positions with SC DHEC in Greenville and Columbia, and Environmental Services Division Director for Anderson County. After retirement, he continued as an engineering consultant for AndersonCounty, and spearheaded their 20-year sewer plan.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 29, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Sullivan-King Mortuary's Northeast Chapel. The funeral will be Tuesday, March 30 at 3 p.m. at Roberts Presbyterian Church where he will be laid to rest.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Upstate or Anderson Interfaith Ministries.
