RUTH (BUNNY) WALLS

ANDERSON, SC - After a brave battle with multiple sclerosis, Curtis Ruth “Bunny” Fowler Walls, age 61, of Anderson joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday night, October 2, 2010.
Born in Anderson, SC, on January 2, 1949, she was a daughter of Mary Rogers Fowler Graves and the late Curtis Reed Fowler. She was Christened at St. John’s Methodist Church in Anderson. As a child she sang in the children’s choir at Trinity Methodist Church where she attended. She was very active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Brownies and Girl Scouts. She took dance lessons and looked forward to marching every year with the baton group in the Anderson Christmas Parade, after which she would join her family and friends to watch the remainder of the parade from the balcony of the Plaza Hotel, owned by her father. Bunny attended kindergarten at First Presbyterian with her sister Joy and others who remained friends for life. Later she delighted in walking the two blocks from her home at 405 Blair Street to North Anderson Elementary School. She was a member of the National Honor Society at McCants Junior High and TL Hanna High School where she graduated with the class of 1967. Most afternoons she could be found swimming at the “Y” and most weekends at “Y” or MYF dances, hayrides, water-skiing with friends at the lake, or other group activities. On Sunday afternoons she would be joined by countless friends at her home on Blair Street where they would play billiards on her Daddy’s pool table and listen to “Motown” music till almost dinner time. Fun summers were spent at the family farm where her Daddy had a commercial vineyard. She also spent part of her summer at Camp Lake Junaluska in North Carolina. Bunny had outstanding talent in piano and voice from an early age. With the Debutones in her teen years, she traveled to Washington DC where she sang at the Capitol and Andrews Air Force Base among other places. She was formerly employed by BellSouth and as an Educator for Anderson School District V. Additionally, Bunny taught piano lessons in Anderson. Her home life was as rich as her social life. She learned to sew from her mother and every member of her family has at least one very special item she hand made for them. She loved to travel and took her children to visit their Aunt Joy and cousins Mary and JC in the many various places they lived. She and her brother Reed and their mother often meet her son Curtis and his family to spend Christmas in Washington DC with sister Joy. She spent time in Italy for the wedding of her son Curtis and later for the birth and Christening of her first grandchild, Joshua and enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with her children at her son’s home in Virginia. She retired as Housemother at the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton SC where she was lovingly known as “Miss Bunny”. While a resident of Clinton, she was a member of Elder Harkness Thornwell Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was the Minister of Music. Mrs. Walls was also a Bible Moderator for Frampton Hall at the Presbyterian Home in Clinton. After retiring, she returned home to Anderson and to her beloved First Presbyterian Church.
