KENNETH LEE ELLIS

February 18, 1925 – October 19, 2010
ANDERSON, SC - Kenneth “Ken” Lee Ellis, age 85, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, SC on February 18, 1925, Mr. Ellis was a son of the late Woody R. Ellis and Ruth Henderson Ellis. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as First Class Quartermaster and also served in the Korean Conflict. He was a locksmith and owner of Ellis Bicycle Shop in Anderson for thirty-four years. He was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Choir Member and was involved in many other church activities. For the last year and a half, he also was active in the Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Ellis enjoyed life- he loved people, helping others, good food and learning new things. He even enjoyed Rehab. He volunteered with many organizations, especially Hospice of the Upstate and AT&T Pioneers of America. He loved camping and traveled most of the fifty states.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Cromer Pettit Ellis; son, Wayne Ellis and his wife, DeAnne of Anderson; daughters; Gayle Ellis Wiley and her husband, Richard of Greensboro, NC and Kay Ellis Thurmond and her husband, Jimmy of Anderson; brothers, Dan C. Ellis and Thomas B. Ellis; sisters, Louise E. Griffin, Betty E. Schrimpf and Pat E. Brown, all of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and many others who considered themselves as part of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen Oliver Ellis.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 am at Pope Drive Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Mack Tester and Reverend Brent Lollis. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mr. Ellis will be placed in the church at 10:00 am on Saturday.
