Spearman, Caroline Alums Reunion Marked by Smiles, Hugs

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

The reunion of two long-gone historically African-American Anderson County schools was celebrated Saturday at the site of one of the orginal schools in Williamston.

Members of the classes of Caroline School, with a history reaching back to the 1870s, eventually moving to the current building housed by the Caroline Community Center on School Street in Williamston in 1937 before closing after desegration in 1969, and Spearman High School, which was open from 1956-1969, packed the auditiorium for a time of remembering.

It was an event marked by big smiles and even bigger hugs. And tears.
