Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
It's official, the long-awaited rennovations of Wellington Park are complete and will be on display at an event Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. at the park, 4010 Calvert Street in Anderson.
Sponsored by the America Outlaws Anderson Soccer Chapter, Anderson County and the Over Under Initiative, the new facility will feature areas for basketball and soccer, along with a new playing field named after Jackie Ray Poore, Sr., a longtime advocate of recreation in the area.
Officials from the sponsoring groups, along with members of the back-to-back 4A S.C. Championship Westside High School Girls basketball team and players from the Greenville Triumph/Liberty professional soccer teams.
“The American Outlaws are very proud to bring this to Anderson County," said Brock Elder, president of the Anderson chapter of the American Outlaws. "This has been an awesome opportunity to partner with the county to do something special, to make sports accessible for all the kids in the area. This is the first totally new court this organization has installed, the first in the Southeast.”
“We are honored to work with our partners to bring this state-of-the-art facility to our community,” said Councilman Glenn Davis.
Council Chairman Tommy Dunn agreed.
“Improvements at this park have been long overdue, and to have it happen at this level of quality, we are thrilled,” said Dunn.
