Second Chance Church Plans Move to Bigger Building
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
As a result of growing pains, Second Chance Church of Anderson is making plans to move into the building most recently occupied by Bi-Lo (and was originally a Kroger, then a Walmart) near the Anderson Mall.
The church, which just celebrated its first year, is now averaging more than 950 per week participating in one three services each Sunday at the current location in the middle of the shopping center anchored by Barberitos and the Fuji Japanese restaurant (in front of Target/Lowe’s). The current location has 350 seats.
Second Chance Church launched just over a year ago with online-only Facebook Live sermons, and has quickly outgrown it's first building.
“This place has been a source of hope and of healing for so many people,” said Second Chance Pastor Perry Noble on Sunday. “It is an environment that we can all come together and be unified around one purpose: ‘God is a God of second chances.’”
Noble said that while he loves the intimacy of the current location, it is now just too small to meet the needs of Anderson.
The new location in the old Bi-Lo offers 28,000 square feet of space, and the church plans include a 700-seat auditorium and an expanded children’s ministry which would offer ministry for kids birth through fifth grade,
“I know more people in this community need the message of hope, need the message of joy, need the message of peace,” Noble said. “And they need to know there is a God out there who is crazy about them no matter what they’ve been told by other people, especially religious.”
The move will cost $2 million, and efforts are now under way to raise the funds.
