New S.C. Law Cracks Down on Temporary License Plates

Columbia, S.C. (WPDE) — Temporary car tags can't be tracked by police, but that's changing soon in South Carolina.
A bill just signed into law now requires auto dealers to give out DMV issued temporary plates that are linked to the car's VIN.
The bill was first introduced in the S.C. Senate by Sens. Lawrence K. "Larry" Grooms, Paul G. Campbell, Jr., and Daniel B. "Danny" Verdin, III, back in March and it passed the House on May 3.
Car dealership employees say this will also help with insurance fraud.
The new law will go into effect in May of 2019.
