Anderson Unemployment Rate Drops in April

Anderson County's unemployment rate dropped significantly in April, moving to 4.7 percent, down from 5.1 percent in March. The statewide unemployment rate increased slightly in April to 5.8 percent, up from 5.7 percent in March.

Anderson County has the fifth lowest unemployment rate in the state. Out of a workforce of 89,915, 85,653 are employed, leaving 4,262 unemployed.

"I would say that the report offers encouraging news about the condition of our local economy and serves to support this Council's ongoing commitment to our economic development program." said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn.

The national unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.0 percent in April.
