First Presbyterian Joins United Way for Habitat Home
The month of September will be an exciting time for the Brownlee family. Alberta and Roger and their three sons Nathan, 17, and twins Braylan and Jaylan, 7, will have a prayer answered when they move into a home of their own. September 1st will be the first day of this build. All four walls should be up by the end of the day. The fast paced action will be exciting to watch as completion and dedication is scheduled for September 26.
First Presbyterian Church and United Way of Anderson County are partnering to build the Brownlee’s home in one month. They will be providing funding, volunteer labor and meals at the job site. This will be First Presbyterian’s fourth build in the last seven years. This is the United Way’s first co-sponsorship and they are already planning for the next one.
The home will be the 38th house built in Anderson County and the second home in the new Habitat subdivision, River Trace. Habitat purchased 23 lots off of White Street Extension. This is the first Habitat for Humanity neighborhood in Anderson County.
These simple, decent homes are sold to selected partner families at no profit and no interest. The Brownlee’s have been working on their sweat equity hours by working on other Habitat homes, attending homeownership classes and helping at the ReStore.
