District Five Breaks Ground for New Elementary School  

Parents and community members joined District Five students, teachers and trustees Sunday to formally break ground at the site of the planned North Pointe Elementary School.

The school site is located on S.C. Highway 81 near the Sullivan-King Mortuary.Members of the District Five Board of Trustees, joined by Dr. Charles E. Rogers, pastor of the nearby Salem Missionary Baptist Church, break ground for the new North Pointe Elementary School at a ceremony held Sunday, November 7. Pictured are, from left, Dr. Paul Talmadge, Al Norris, David Alewine, Margaret Mack, Charles Anderson, Dr. Rogers, Dr. William Mack Burriss, Ann Huitt, Superintendent Betty Bagley, and a young helper. 

Guests were welcomed by Dr. William Mack Burriss, chairman of the Board of Trustees. The invocation was given by Dr. Charles E. Rogers, pastor of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. 

Remarks were also made by Board Vice Chairman Al Norris, Building Committee Chair Ann W. Huitt and Superintendent Betty Bagley.

The T.L. Hanna High School NJROTC did the Presentation of Colors and the T.L. Hanna Band performed at the event.

Site development for North Pointe Elementary is currently underway. The new school is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. It will be the 11th elementary school in the district.
