JACK McALISTER

NOVEMBER 3, 1946 – NOVEMBER 11, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Jack Kenneth McAlister, age 65, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Anderson, SC, on November 3, 1946, he was a son of the late Sam & Levia Martin McAlister.  Survivors include a brother, Roger Dale McAlister and wife, Cathy Lynn McAlister, of Anderson, SC; lifelong best friend, Bobby Massey and wife, Donna Massey, of Starr, SC; a special uncle, who has always shown continuous love & support, Clarence Martin and wife, Jean Martin, of Anderson, SC; nieces: Teresa Maleski, Charlotte Whitten, & Nicole Ballard, all of Anderson, SC, Nicki Fleming of Belton, SC, and Kelley Kirkland Cournoyer of NC; three great nieces, and one great nephew also survive. 

In keeping with Mr. McAlister’s wishes, his remains will be cremated.   A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made by donating blood. Memorials may be made to the AnMed Health Blood Center, 600 North Fant Street, Anderson, SC 29621, or a donation to a charity of one’s choice.

KENNY REESE JR.

APRIL 27, 1961 – NOVEMBER 9, 2011 

STARR, SC – Kennith Leon Reese Jr., age 50, resident of Starr, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.

Born April 27, 1961, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of Kennith Leon Reese Sr. and Barbara Meredith Reese. He was a graduate of McDuffie High School and served in the United States National Guard with twenty-two years of service. Mr. Reese was an employee of Culp Woven Velvets, Inc. and was a member of NewSpring Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, mostly enjoying hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three children: Erica Nicole Reese, Courtney Marie Reese, and Christopher Kennith Reese, all of Anderson, SC; siblings: Tammy R. Hembree of Anderson, SC, Bryan Reese of Townville, SC, Michele R. McShane of Bluffton, SC, and Allyson R. Toomer of Hilton Head Island, SC; and nine beloved nieces and nephews.  

The Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at Good Hope Baptist Church, Iva, conducted by Dr. Robbie Garrett and the Reverend Billy Whitfield.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. 

The family is at the home of his parents, 319 Five Forks, Anderson, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 5pm until 7pm on Saturday.

RONNIE D. GOSSETT

July 5, 1936 – November 11, 2011

PENDLETON, SC – Ronnie D. Gossett, age 75, of 444 Wellford Drive, Pendleton, SC, husband of Kathy Graham Gossett, died Friday, November 11, 2011 at his residence.

Born in Anderson County on July 5, 1936, he was a son of the late Marshall Dewitt Gossett and Mary Louise Rollison Gossett.  He was a graduate of Pendleton High School and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas with thirty five years of service.  He was an avid hunter and a member of the Keowee Bowmen.  He also flew radio controlled airplanes and was member of the Black Sheep Radio Control Club. He was a Mason and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; son, Ronald D. Gossett, Jr. of Pendleton; daughter, Janet Bruce of Belton; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Trey Yarborough. 

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, November 13, 2011, at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Pendleton Cemetery conducted by Reverend Courtney Krueger and Reverend Jennifer McClung.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family will be at the residence.

LEE HARDIN

PENDLETON - Michael Lee Hardin, 52, of 414 Blackman Road, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at his residence. 

Born October 21, 1959 in Kittery, ME, he was the son of the late Henry E. Hardin, Sr. and late Ann Martin Hardin. He served 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. Lee was a shop supervisor at Hertz Equipment Rental Company and attended New Spring Church. 

Lee is survived by his 3 children, Jennifer Hardin and her fiancé, David Thompson and Jared Hardin all of Anderson and Amber Hubbard (Kenny) of Memphis, TN; special friend and mother of Jennifer, Beth Hardin of Anderson;  4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Debbie Glenn (Jerry)  and Dottie Hardin all of Pendleton; 3 brothers, Henry Hardin, Jr. (Keena) of Anderson, Allen Hardin (Dot) of Columbia and Todd Hardin (Edie) of Pendleton and close friend, Charmian Hanvey of Anderson.

Graveside service will be held at 1pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dan Charles officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Upstate Veteran Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9pm Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the home of his sister, Debbie Glenn, 414 Blackman Road, Pendleton.

JOHN W. YEOMANS SR.

MAY 1, 1935 – NOVEMBER 9, 2011

PENDLETON, SC – John Wilson Yeomans Sr., age 76, former resident of Porter Road, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.

Born May 1, 1935, in Greenville, he was a son of the late Kyler William Yeomans and Rozell Dykes Yeomans. After graduating Parker High School, Mr. Yeomans pursued a career in textiles and retired from Clark-Schwebel, Inc.  He attended The Mount Church in Clemson and was an avid golfer, bowler, and faithful fan of the Clemson Tigers. 

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Jean Gailey Yeomans; sons: John W. Yeomans Jr. and wife, Lori, of Anderson, SC, and William Earl Yeomans of Houston, TX; brother, Reverend Ed Yeomans of Greenville, SC; triplet brothers: Joe Yeomans of Greenville, SC, and Jack Yeomans of Easley, SC; sister, Roweena Y. Noblitt of Greenville, SC; grandchildren: Allan Yeomans and wife, Summer, Summer Reyes and husband, Ricky, Mandy Yeomans, Brittany Brown and husband, Michael, Tiffany Yeomans, Sydney Yeomans, and Gabriella Yeomans; and seven great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers: Russell Yeomans and K.W. Yeomans.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

The family is at the home of John & Lori Yeomans, 932 Sandy Springs Road, Anderson, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Friday.

BARBARA A. BARR

ANDERSON, SC - Barbara A. Johns Barr, 74, of 129 Canter Lane, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her residence.  

Born February 22, 1937 in Pell City, AL, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Pauline Wear Johns.  

Surviving are her daughters, Nicole Westmoreland of Anderson and Patricia Skeen of OH; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held at 11am Thursday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

VERA SLATON CLINGERMAN

May 3, 1916 – November 7, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Vera Katholine Pittman Slaton Clingerman, age 95, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011, at her residence.

Born in Hall County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Billy Pittman and Beulah Ann Latty Pittman Peppers.  She retired in 1980, from Abney Riverside Mill with 36 years of service.  She was a member of the North Anderson Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School class.   She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Anderson, Chapter 130.   

Survivors include her son, Thomas Jerry Slaton and his wife, Brenda; two grandchildren, Todd and Dale Slaton; two great-granddaughters, Heather Ebernickle and her husband, Garrett Ebernickle and Sabrina Slaton; her step-daughter, Beverly C. Rice; four step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.     

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, William Rass Slaton and Charley C. Clingerman; brother, Allen C. Pittman.

The family will receive friends at The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm with the funeral beginning at 2:00 in the Chapel, officiated by the Reverend Bill Rigsby.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of her son, 119 Concord Road, Anderson, SC.

RAYMOND PAUL PEPPER

May 11, 1928 – November 5, 2011

ANDERSON, SC - Raymond Paul Pepper, of 111 Oxford Drive, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at his residence. 

Born May 11, 1928, in Monday, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Fred Holland Pepper and Jeanette Louise DePew Pepper.  He was retired from the U.S. Navy having served from 1945-1947 and then from 1958-1977 as Chief’s Machinist Mate.   Following his Navy career, he worked for 13 years with A & E Industries Ship Repair as their chief estimator. In 1991 he moved to Anderson and became an active member of West Anderson Church of God where he served as usher.  

He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Fannie Mae Burton Pepper; daughter, Cinda Hoye; sons, Dale Pepper and his wife, Mary, Ronald Pepper, and step-son, Edward Conner and his wife, Diana; sister, Pat Pitts; brother, Don Pepper; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Opal Vine.  

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 2:00 pm at West Anderson Church of God officiated by the Reverend Mark Daniel.   Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with full Military Honors.

MADIE O. CRAWFORD

ANDERSON- Madie O. Crawford, 98, of Anderson, formerly of Houston, TX died Friday November 4, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 9, 1913 in Cherno, TX, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Emma Miller Chamblee. She was a home health aid. Mrs. Crawford was a member of First Baptist Church, Houston, TX for 30 years and was currently a member of Concord Baptist Church. 

Surviving are her daughters: Pat Harmon and Reba McGaughey both of Anderson, grandchildren: Lori Harmon, Pete Harmon, Scott Harmon and Tony Harmon, nine great grandchildren, sister, Aline Stovall, nephew, Joe Stovall and special sister-in-law, Christine Hughes. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Charlie and Wesley Chamblee. 

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Don Cox officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

MARY LOU WALKER BURRISS  

June 22, 1921 – November 2, 2011 

CLINTON, SC - Mary Lou Cathey Walker Burriss, age 90, formerly of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, November 02, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Patricia Toussaint in Clinton, SC.

Born in Anderson County, SC on June 22, 1921, Mrs. Burriss was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Claude Lee Cathey.  She was a homemaker and volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at Anderson Memorial Hospital. She had been a member of the Senior Follies and also  volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Burriss was a lifelong, faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson, the Burriss Hill Mission Group and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. 

Survivors include her son, Charles Irvin Walker of Lake Wales, FL; daughters, Cathey Walker Ward and her husband, Billy of Lake Wales, FL and Patricia Toussaint and her husband, Vincent of Clinton; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Irvin Walker and her second husband, Marcus Burriss; brother, Reece Cathey; sisters, Ina Kay, Lillian Sease, Nobie Mauldin and Hazel Willingham Crossland. 

A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, officiated by Chaplain Chad Bowen with the family receiving friends following the service.

ANDERSON, SC - Donnie Ray Gaines, age 54, of 18 Sirrine Street, passed away on Wednesday, November 02, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late William Thomas Gaines and Myrtle Mae Smith Gaines. He was formerly employed with Glen Raven Mills and was also self-employed for several years. He was an active blood donor at AnMed Health Medical Center and was a member of Wellington Pentecostal Holiness Church.  Donnie enjoyed watching movies and reading John Grisham books. 

Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Marie Gaines and Tabitha Rae McCauley (Adam) all of Pelzer; sisters, Martha Sheridan (Joe), Betty Knight, Jeanette Williams and Cindy Powers, all of Anderson; four grandsons and one granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Tommy, Roy, Bobby and James Gaines. 

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 3:00 pm at Wellington Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Reverends Bobby Smith and Ken Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. 

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. 

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
