ROBERT “SAM” SAMMONS

June 22, 1933 – November 11, 2012 

SENECA, SC - Robert Wesley Sammons, Jr., of 370 Singing Pines Road, Seneca, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his home.

Born in Covington, GA, he was the son of the late Robert Wesley Sammons Sr. and the late Ila Mae Drake Sammons.  He was a graduate of Newton County High School and attended Tri-County Technical College. He retired from the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. During his Navy career he was a Navy Seal and he served on Destroyers, Nuclear Submarines and Navy Gunships.  He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.  Sam also retired from The Duke Power Nuclear Plant after 20 years of service to them, and was a member of the Duke Power Retiree Association.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Jean Holland Sammons of the home; his children, Robbie Sammons Carvell and her husband Paul of Pelzer, SC, Joyce Sheppard and her husband Joe of York, SC, DeLynn Wyant and her husband Justin of York, SC, Marion Cook and his wife Jessica and Jay Cook and his wife Mandy, all of Hickory Grove, SC; a brother, Drake Sammons of Covington, GA; a sister, Sharon Callahan of San Antonio, TX; 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Bruce Sammons and a brother, James Sammons.

The Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:00 am at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with full Military Honors.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

BILLY MCLEROY, III

DECEMBER 9, 1953 – NOVEMBER 10, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - William Frank McLeroy, III, age 58, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late William Frank McLeroy, II and Mary Irene Simmons McLeroy.  He was a graduate of Berea High School in Greenville, SC where he held several records in Track and Field and excelled in Football.  Billy was retired from Michelin Tire Corporation in Anderson after 37 ½ years and was a member of Agnew Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC.  Billy’s love was fishing; he enjoyed being out on the water, with his fishing rod in hand.  

Billy was a devoted father to his children, Taylor Evan McLeroy and Kristin Lee McLeroy, both of Anderson. He is also survived by brothers, Kenneth Dale McLeroy and his wife Debbi of Greenville, Jeffery Scott McLeroy and his wife, Kim of Pickens; sister, Donna Lynn Terry and her husband, JD of Arkansas; his best friend and fishing buddy, Brian Kelly; and Terri Waldrop, his loving companion. 

The Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Reverend Kirt Mitchell, officiating.

The family is at the home.

ARTHUR “ART” B. HENDERSON

October 25, 1925 – November 8, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Arthur “Art” Bernard Henderson, age 87, of Anderson, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Waycross GA, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Henderson, Sr.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 26 years as Chief Petty Officer.  He worked for many years as the Operations Manager at Carolina Power and Light.  He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, he was active in the C.F. Kirby Men’s Sunday School Class and he was a Golden Ambassador Senior Adult.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Poore Henderson of the home; a son, David Michael Henderson and his wife Gwen of Fayeteville, TN; two step-sons. James David Poore and his wife Willette of Anderson and Michael Stanton Poore and his wife Lisa of Anderson; a step-daughter, Debbie Driskoll of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Joan Dunks of Kerriville, TX; three grandchildren, Todd Henderson, Brian Moss and John Paul Poore; and three great-grandchildren, Chesney Moss, Michael Lewis Moss and Bella Moss. 

The Funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Glenn Taylor and Reverend Gordon Taylor officiating.  Interment will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00 am, at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. 

The family will be at the home of Jimmy and Willette Poore, 406 Berkshire Hill, Anderson, SC 29621 and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

DOUG HOLDEN

ANDERSON - Johnny Douglas "Doug" Holden, 66, of 136 Welcome Lane, died Saturday, November, 3, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born July 24, 1946 in Anderson, he was the son of the late John Lloyd and Masculan Crane Holden. He was a retired Bellsouth technician and attended New Spring Church. 
Surviving are his son, Brian Holden; daughter, Kelly Nevins; special daughter, Stephanie Moses Tickle; 2 grandchildren, Connor Holden and Jordan Nevins all of Greenville; stepson, Daron Seigler and a stepdaughter, Tara Seigler Wilson both of Georgia. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Candy Mattison.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel and a reception will follow at 4pm at Boscobel Golf Club.

JUANITA C. OUBRE  

TOWNVILLE - Juanita Cromer Oubre, 79, of 574 Double Springs Road, widow of Melvin Joe Oubre, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at her residence. 

Born December 1, 1932 in the Double Springs Community, she was the daughter of the late Ernest H. and Evelyn Cromer. She was a homemaker and a member of Double Springs Baptist Church. 

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie McAdams and husband, Harry of Townville, and Yvonne Smith of the home; one son, Joseph Oubre and wife, Sherri of Townville; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Kyle Caudell. The family is at the home of Stephanie and Harry McAdams, 404 Farmer Road, Townville.

ROBERT E. "PAW PAW" MOORHEAD

ANDERSON - Robert Edwin Moorhead, 68, of 507 Parkwood Drive, husband of Linda M. Moorhead, died Friday, October 26, 2012 at his home. 

Born June 6, 1944 in Royston, GA, he was the son of the late Jim Smith and Ruth Temple Moorhead. He was a retired barber and pest control owner. Mr. Moorhead was of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Moorhead of the home; one daughter, Kristi Renea Nettles and husband, Rick of Anderson; two grandchildren, Kinsley Moorhead and Brandon Nettles; brother, James H. "Jimmy" Moorhead of Hartwell, GA; and his precious dog, Pepper. 

He has gone to Heaven to be reunited with his precious granddaughter, Ansleigh Moorhead and his son, Eddie Moorhead.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of his daughter, Renea and Rick Nettles, 108 Murphy Road, Anderson, conducted by Dr. Larry Pearson. The family will receive friends following the service. The family is at the residence.

DAVID HALL

ANDERSON - George David Hall, 73, of Anderson, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born December 13, 1938 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Alvin Henry and Ruby White Hall. He was a retired textile supervisor.

Survivors include one daughter, Dena Sanders (Tim) of Anderson; one son, Ronnie Hall (Judy Barbare) of Anderson; and three grandchildren, Amber Minton, Zach Minton, and Tonya Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Hall, a sister, Dorothy Riggins, and a brother, Bill Hall.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Bob Philyaw. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Family members are at their respective homes.

RAY FOWLER

ANDERSON - Ray Wilson Fowler, 86, of 2014 Cardinal Park Drive, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012.

Born March 10, 1926 in Greenwood, he was the son of the late James Arthur and Bessie Wilson Fowler. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where served in the 10th Mountain Division in Northern Italy. Mr. Fowler attended Brevard College where he played baseball. He was retired from Maxwell Furniture Company where he was retail manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson, the Howard Smith Sunday School Class and he sang in the church choir and the Baraca Chorus.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne McCurry Fowler of the home; daughter, Jan Isbill and her husband, Edward of Lawrenceville, GA; son, Jim Fowler of the home; six grandchildren, Stephanie Nunes and her husband, Brian, Stephen Isbill, Jonathan Isbill, Joanna Isbill, David Isbill, and Katie Fowler; four great grandchildren, Claire Nunes, Walker Nunes, Raemy Perryman, and Ryder Perryman; and one sister, Doris Harter and her husband, Dick of Ninety Six.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ray W. Fowler, Jr., a brother, Marion Fowler, and a sister, Margaret Boyd. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. The family will receive friends at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson, following the service. The family is at the residence.

MICH MCCLELLION

ANDERSON - Joseph Michael "Mich" McClellion, 25, of 705 Brown Road, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Born November 30, 1986 in Anderson, he was the son of Jo Gayle Copeland McClellion and the late William Richard "Dicky" McClellion. Mich was a graduate of Camden Military Academy and was attending Tri-County Tech. He was part owner and operator of the Anderson Jockey Lot and attended NewSpring Church. 

In addition to his mother, Mich is survived by his brother, William Richard “Mac” McClellion, III; 2 sisters, Amanda Caron McClellion Downs, Sara Elizabeth McClellion, all of Anderson and step-sister, Whitney Sloan Ramsey of Pendleton; aunt, Mary Jane Carraway of Anderson; grandmother, Lettie Ann Copeland Wright and nephew and niece, Chase and Erin. He was preceded in death by his father, "Dicky"; brother, Matthew "Jet" McClellion; grandparents, William Richard McClellion, Sr., Sara Lois Cobb McClellion and Joseph Copeland. 

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 3pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Hwy 81.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 3:30pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. 

The family is at the home of his mother, 1108 Greenacres, Anderson.

DILLON ADDIS

June 13, 1989 - October 16, 2012

ANDERSON - Joshua Dillon Addis, 23, of 2706 Linmar Circle, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012.

Dillon was currently obtaining his second degree from Tri-County Technical College in Radio and Television Broadcasting. He received his first degree, an Associates Degree of Science, with honors. He was a 2007 graduate of Abbeville High School and a 5 year member of T. L. Hanna Marching Band. He was selected and attended the Congressional Student Leadership Conference on CSI: Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation in Washington, DC. Dillon was also selected and attended NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. He was a published artist in "What a Mother Says" written by Juanita Pittman-Brown.  

Dillon was a proud supporter of Toys for Tots for 23 years and an active blood donor for the American Red Cross receiving the "Three Gallon Service Award". He was a supporter of the "Look Twice Save A Life" campaign, and the Privateer Press Club at Planet Comics. He was a Karaoke DJ and Blues Singer for many benefit fundraisers and was a member of Abbeville Main Street United Methodist Church Youth Group.  

Surviving are his mother, Allison Cameron Addis of Abbeville; father, Marcus "Mark Mark" Gary Addis, II and Lynda of Anderson; brother, Justin David Addis; sister, Aidan Marie-Rose Addis all of Anderson; maternal grandparents, Bill and Judy Cameron, of Abbeville and the late, Helen Kelly Cameron, and the late, Barbara Glasby Cameron; paternal grandparents, Marcus "Gary" Addis of Anderson and the late, Annie Ruth Bannister Addis and great grandmother, the late Hattie V. Addis. He is also survived by many family and friends. 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Hwy 81.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, with Dr. John Keith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville escorted by an Honorary motorcycle procession.

BETTY JO WHEELER

January 10, 1933 – October 11, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Betty Joan White Wheeler, age 79, wife of Bobby L. Wheeler, of 410 Harmony Road, Anderson, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Louie Lester White and the late Perry Lee Rebecca Morgan White.  She was a 1951 graduate of Girl’s High.  She retired from Orkin Exterminating Company after 25 years of service. She worked for Carolina Auto Auction after her retirement.  Betty Jo was a member of Eastern Star and the Red Hatters Society.  She was very active in her community, she volunteered for AIM, she was very active in the Senior Follies, Relay for Life in both Anderson, SC and Marietta, GA.  She was a member of Middleton Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir and of WMU.
In her later years, she enjoyed picking black berries.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Ben Thomas of Marietta, GA, and Bradley Thomas and his wife, Pam of Anderson, SC; a step-daughter, Deborah Moats of Maryland; a brother, Jim White of Anderson ; a sister, Barbara Wardlaw of Pendleton; five grandchildren, Rodney Moats, Brad Thomas, Amy Campbell, Crystal Harris and Lindsay Thomas; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty Jo was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Thomas.

The Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Archie Sharpe and Reverend Ralph Carter officiating.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

FRANK SPEIGHT

ANDERSON- Frank Allan Speight, 84, of 322 Whitehall Rd., died Friday October 12, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born April 13, 1928 in Albemarle, NC he was the son of the late John Alexander and Esther Davis Speight. He was retired from the Greenville News and was of the Presbyterian Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Ebernickle Speight of the home, children: Allan Speight (Tania) of Summerville, Rosemary Emory of Anderson, Ricky Speight (Cindy) of Anderson, Kathy Wilson of Albuquerque, NM, Amy Stone of Atlanta, Brian Speight (Kristin) of Anderson, and Mark Speight, of Anderson, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister, Betty Parker of Salisbury, NC, brothers, Kenneth Speight of Sarasota, FL and Tom Speight of Albemarle, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Julia and Susan Speight.

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Roberts Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. The family will be at the home of daughter, Rosemary Emory, 302 Hopewell Ridge, Anderson.
