Dorothy Acker

Anderson, SC - Dorothy Jean McKinney Acker, 85, widow of Glenn Acker, Jr., died Monday, July 27, 2015 at NHC of Anderson. She had been a resident of Marchbanks Assisted Living for the past eight years.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Hillery Clifford and Reedie Lee Queen McKinney. Mrs. Acker was a former employee of the Anderson County Auditor’s Office and was a lifelong member of Anderson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Glenn Acker (Kay) and Kenneth Gene Acker (Allison); seven grandchildren, Erik Acker, Jon Acker, Jared Acker, Derek Acker, Tyler Hinchcliff, Kelly Rodes and Marisa Hinchcliff; eleven great grandchildren, Addie, Bella, Scott, Bryson, Colby, Josiah, Nathanael, Titus, Elyse, Liam, and Weston.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Rodes; sisters, Evelyn Browning, Margie Thompson and Elizabeth Woodson; and a brother, Hillery C. McKinney, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. Burial will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday. The family is at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622 or First Baptist Church, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
