Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hembree

Anderson, SC  - Elizabeth “Lizzie” Hembree, age 97, of Anderson, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014.

Born in Brevard, NC, on October 31, 1916. She retired from the textile industry after many years of service.  She attended Trinity Springs Church of God.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Atkins and her husband Barney, of Honea Path, SC and Retha Griffin and her husband Doug, of Anderson, SC.; two sisters, Agnes Lanier and Bonnie Moore, both of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren, Cindy Fortner, Jill Dunn, Connie Martin, Genia Groves, and Brooke Griffin; five great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Lee Hembree; a daughter, Cora Smith; a son, Stoney Hembree; two sisters, Annie Fountain and Grace Frady; and a great-grandson, Bryant Fortner.

The Graveside Service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Scott Vaughn officiating.

The family will be at the home of her granddaughter, Genia Groves, 118 Concord Circle, Anderson, SC, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
