Pete Riggins

Pendleton, SC - J.P. Edward "Pete" Riggins, 92,  husband of Martha Jane Porter Riggins, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at his residence.

Born October 5, 1922 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late David Alexander and Mary Evaline Christopher Riggins. He was a retired logger and had worked as an assistant supervisor at Gerrish Millikin. Mr. Riggins was a member of Refuge Baptist Church where he served in a number of leadership roles including choir director and Deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Jane Riggins of the home; children, Pat R. Owen and husband, Don, Tommy Edward Riggins and wife, Martha Jo, all of Pendleton, Violet Rhodes and husband, Andy of Anderson, Kathy Riggins of the home and Tracy Burch of Greer; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Olin Riggins and Edwin Gary Riggins; five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Mike Cothran. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. A private burial will be in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the residence.

Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Refuge Baptist Church, 219 Refuge Church Road, Central, SC 29630.
