Forest DeWitt Suggs, Jr.

ANDERSON, SC  - Forest DeWitt Suggs, Jr., of 205 Middle Brooke Dr., passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at his residence. 

Born in Anderson, SC., on November 29, 1928 he was the son of the late Dr. Forest DeWitt Suggs and the late Mrs. Mary Stark Watkins Suggs.  He was a Public Accountant with Suggs and Associates, PA.  He was an Eagle Scout, a 1946 graduate of Boy’s High School where he was a member of Who’s Who and the Beta Club.  He was a 1950 graduate of Clemson A&M (now University), and a member of Blue Key, The Tiger Brotherhood, The Senior Platoon and Alpha Phi Omega.  Mr. Suggs served in The United States Army during the Korean War, where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant.   He was a  past President of the Greer, South Carolina Kiwanis Club. He was also a past President of The Anderson Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.  He served as Chairman of The Board of The South Carolina Association of Public Accountants.

 He was past Chairman of The Board of Trustees of Anderson Memorial Hospital and a past Trustee of the Board of School District #5. Mr. Suggs was instrumental in the formation of The United Way Fund. Mr. Suggs was a former member of the Board of Visitors of Presbyterian College and a current member of the Board of Visitors of Anderson University.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He served as a Deacon and an Elder at The First Presbyterian Church of Greer, SC., The Central Presbyterian Church of Anderson, and The First Presbyterian Church of Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gray Williams Suggs; sons, Forest DeWitt Suggs, III (Pam) of Mount Pleasant, SC, David Gray Suggs (Virginia) Anderson, SC and Stark Watkins Suggs (Karen) of Greenville, SC; sister, Mrs. Sarah Lipscomb Suggs Clinkscales of Belton, SC; seven grandchildren, Connor Suggs, Forest Suggs, IV, David Suggs, Glenn Suggs, Jonathan Suggs, Blake Suggs and Ben Suggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Mary Stark Suggs Marshall.

Following an interment at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, a Memorial Service Celebrating the life of Mr. Suggs will be held at The First Presbyterian Church at 11:30 am, on Monday, October 27, 2014, conducted by Dr. Dennis Tedder and Reverend Caroline Berardi.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Funeral Home.
