THOMAS “HOOT” SMITH

August 25, 1922 – April 1, 2013
Thomas “Hoot” Houston Smith, age 90, of 910 Bowden Road, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the NHC Health Care of Anderson. Born in Pickens County, SC, he was the son of the late Lawrence Augusta Smith and the late Minnie Eva Simpson Smith. For 72 years he was the loving and devoted husband of Mildred Gertrude Long Smith of the home.
Mr. Smith was an auto dealer in the Anderson area, and proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW II. He was a long time member of the House of Prayer. “Hoot” was an avid fan of Atlanta Braves baseball.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son, Tommy Smith and his wife, Libby, of Anderson; 2 daughters, Judy Hall and her husband, Bennie, of Anderson, and Christa Smith of Iva; a brother, Richard Earl Smith and his wife, Mary, of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Amber Burns, Ashley Smith, Meloney Hanvey, Crystal Jones, Barry Hanvey, and Craig Hanvey. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren and a special long-time friend, Mr. Harry Osborne. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Elizabeth Smith; and 2 brothers, Lawrence “L.G.” Smith, and Laylon “Red” Cleveland Smith.
Funeral Services will be Monday, April 8, 2013, at 2 PM, at the House of Prayer, with Rev. Jerry Nations, Rev. Mike Harrell, and Mr. Harry Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence of Judy and Bennie Hall, 203 Brentwood Circle, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
