July 29, 1913 – March 9, 2013

Annie Mae “Mer Mae” Johnson, age 99, of 207 Brookhaven Drive, Anderson  entered her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 9, 2013, upon her death at the Exalted Health and Rehab Center in Iva.  Born in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Lee Johnson and the late Willie Prince Johnson.  While she was never married, she was a second mother to several generations of her brother’s children.  She loved and cared for them all as her own.

Miss Johnson was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church.  She was employed at Kendall Mills in Pelzer, a position from which she retired in 1964.    She had a love for flowers, and had them growing all around her yard.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Myrtice Johnson of the residence.  Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Lee Johnson; 2 sisters Hazel Fowler, Gaynelle Hunter; also 2 brothers who died in childhood.

A Funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Miss Johnson will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 4 PM at the Homeland Park Baptist Church, with Rev. James Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will be at the home of a niece, Shera Ann Turner, 734 New Hope Road, Anderson, and will receive friends at Homeland Park Baptist Church on Monday from 2 PM until 3:30 PM.

Donations in memory of Miss Johnson may be made to Homeland Park Baptist Church, 3010 Abbeville Hwy., Anderson, SC 29624.
