“Chief” Dan Hogan
Anderson - Daniel Jefferson “Chief” Hogan, 87, husband of the late Mary Hogan, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born February 7, 1926 in McCormick, he was the son of the late John Lee and Pearl Lee Dobson Dillingham Hogan. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of W.W. II where he served in the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific and the European Theater and was also a Veteran of the Korean War. After retirement from the Navy in 1965, he was an educator at T.L. Hanna and McDuffie High Schools where he was instrumental in the formation of the NJROTC Program at both schools. Mr. Hogan was a member of the Fleet Reserve Unit #324 where he was Past President and Master at Arms; a member of the V.F.W. Post 5996 where he was Past Commander and Past Home Committee Chairman; American Legion Post 184; Hiram Masonic Lodge; Past Hejaz Temple, and the Tin Can Sailors. He was a member of Toxaway United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Past President of the Board of Trustees.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharron Barnett and husband, Jim of Greensboro, NC and Sheila Hogan and fiance, Michael Wood of Anderson; one son, Daniel J. Hogan, Jr. and wife, Deborah of Anderson; grandchildren, Kendra Marie Elliott, Mary Danielle Elliott Smith, Sheila Hogan Barnett, William Hogan Barnett and Daniel J. Hogan III; great grandchildren, Darby Marie Elliott, Mariclare Catherine Smith, Grace Isabelle Hogan, and Gabrielle Nicole Hogan; and one sister, Mamie Bodenheimer.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Grace Nicole Hogan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Kirt Stutler. Entombment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors conducted by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 Friday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.
