HERMAN L. ROBINSON

November 1, 1925 – January 1, 2013

ANDERSON, SC - Herman Lanier Robinson, age 87, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Starr, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph Pickens Robinson, Sr. and the late Essie Jane Shirley Robinson.  He was a graduate of Greenwood High School.  He proudly served his country in the Army, serving in the 101 Airborne Division and received a Purple Heart after injuries during the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for many years for Greenwood Mills at the Harris Plant and the Ninety Six Plant. He later retired from the BASF plant in Anderson, SC.  He was a Mason with Jappa Lodge in Greenwood.  Herman was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Starwalt and her husband Doug and Barry Robinson and his wife, Tina; a sister, Hazel Rhodes; a brother, Harold “Sam” Robinson; five grandchildren, Nathan Starwalt, Alana McAbee, Chandlar Starwalt, Christian Robinson, Bryan Robinson; and two great-grandchildren, Teagan McAbee and Liam McAbee. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lucille Davis Robinson; three sisters, Nellie R. Jones, Virginia Ouzts, and Mary Chandler; and two brothers, Joseph P. Robinson, Jr. and John “Jack” Robinson. 

The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Mack Tester officiating.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. 

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at the funeral home.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Pope Drive Baptist Church, 2510 Pope Drive, Anderson, SC 29625.
