GEORGE M. REED

ANDERSON - George Milton Reed, 98, of Anderson, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at NHC of Anderson.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Garland McDavid and Addie Brown Reed. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II with 5 years active duty and was retired from the U.S. Army National Guard  as a Command Sergeant Major ( CSM) with 31 years service. He attended Anderson College and was a farmer. Mr. Reed was a member and Past President of Anderson Golden K and was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. 

Survivors include his wife, Katharine W. Reed; son, George M. “Sonny” Reed and wife Susan of Anderson; five grandchildren, Dr. Alison Reed of Hickory, NC, Walker Reed and wife, Kacie of Greenville, Benjamin Reed and wife, Charity of Anderson, Reed Richardson and husband, Mark of Atlanta, and Anna Franklin of Charlotte; two great grandchildren, Mac and Kate Richardson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Brown, a sister, Kate R. Shirley, and three brothers, Lucius Reed, Col. Henry M. Reed, and Broadus F. Reed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, at Long Branch Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Watson. Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at Long Branch Baptist Church fellowship hall. The family is at the home of his son, George M. “Sonny” Reed, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long Branch Baptist Church,

2101 Highway 413, Anderson, SC 29621 or to First Baptist Church Bicentennial Fund, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
