JAMES D. CARITHERS, SR.

JULY 7, 1921 – JULY 8, 2010
 
ANDERSON, SC – James Daniel Carithers, Sr., age 89, husband of Geraldine Cooper Carithers, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010, in Elberton, GA.
 
Born in Elberton, GA, on July 7, 1921, he was a son of the late Hugh C. Carithers and Lula Mae Saxon Carithers.  He retired from the United States Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He served in World War II during the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. Additionally, he was employed in the textiles industry.  Mr. Carithers was a member of Trinity Springs Church of God.
 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Jane C. Cain and Robbie C. James, both of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.  A brother, Nathan Carithers of Anderson, SC, also survives.
 
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, James Daniel Carithers, Jr.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 10, 2010, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend James Patterson. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Navy. 
 
The family will receive friends in the Mausoleum Chapel thirty minutes prior to the service.
 
The Carithers family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Staff of Heritage Health Care at Spring Valley, Elberton, GA, for the wonderful care given to Mr. Carithers.
 
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to United Hospice of Athens, 435 Hawthorne Avenue, Suite 200, Athens, GA 30606.
