HAROLD E. SMITH

 January 1, 1929 – February 24, 2010

THE VILLAGES, FLORIDA - Harold Eugene Smith, age 81, husband of D. Jean Sosebee Smith of 642 San Marino Drive, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.

Born in Greenville, SC on January 1, 1929, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Homer Nathaniel Smith and Edith Barkley Smith.  He was a 1946 graduate of Greenville High School and served in the United States Navy.  Mr. Smith retired from the Federal Aviation Authority in the Air Traffic Division.  He was a member of The Chapel of Christian Faith in The Villages, FL. He formerly lived in Anderson, SC where he was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Robert E. Smith of Toccoa, GA, Michael N. Smith and his wife, Jan of Douglasville, GA and Gary L. Smith and his wife, Jessica of Alexandria, TN; brother, Roy N. Smith and sister, Betty Smith Duncan, both of Greenville, SC.  Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ruby S. Johnson.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend W. Chris Huff.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers with interment following in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of June Cooley, 4147 Old Portman Road, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Chapel, 11247 N.E. US Highway 301, Oxford, FL 34484. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting
