Linnaeus Garnet Alexander 

ANDERSON – Linnaeus Garnet Alexander, 87, formerly of Creswell Avenue, widower of Dorothy Clement Alexander, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Magnolia Manor, Greenville.

Born March 31, 1922 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Arthur R. and Sudie Mae Scott Alexander. He was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of World War II and was a retired insurance salesman. Mr. Alexander was on the board of trustees and Advisor to the President of Youth Basketball of America. He was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church and the Baraca Class.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Alexander of Anderson and Chris Alexander of Greenville; two daughters, Becky Bell of Greenville and Jean Byce of Sandy Springs; nine grandchildren, Jenny Liberatore, Mitch Green, Brooks Byce, Josh Bell, Matt Green, Melissa Bell, Eric Bell, Ashlyn and Anna Alexander; great grandchild, Aiden Byce; and three brothers, Kenneth Alexander of Florida, David and Gaines Alexander, both of Anderson.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Green, and two sisters, Lena Ivester and Dorothy Alexander.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. C.W. Hicks. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites conducted by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of Mitch and Sara Green, 137 Mediterranean Avenue, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potential Sports Academy, 130 Arrowhead Court, Greenville, SC 29605 or Anderson Interfaith Ministries, P.O. Box 1136, Anderson, SC 29622.
