ROBERT L. GOFF

SEPTEMBER 1, 1930 – AUGUST 5, 2011

ANDERSON, SC -- Robert L. (Bob) Goff, 80, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011 surrounded by family at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC. 

Born September 1, 1930, in Holden, WV, Bob was the son of the late Virgil Goff and Edna Powell Goff.  He was retired from Appalachian Power Company and Maben Energy in Madison, WV. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Anderson, SC and was active in the VFW in Madison, before he moved to Anderson to live with his daughter. Bob was an avid turkey hunter and loved the outdoors. He also served his country during the Korean War as a proud sailor in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Juanita Bailey Goff and second wife, Delores Justice Goff. 

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Goff O’Brien and husband, Earl, grandson, Andy, granddaughter, Bailey all of Anderson, SC; son, Larry D. Goff; sister, Phyllis Goff Bojaski of Holden, WV; nephew, Greg Bojaski of Orlando, FL  and niece, Brenda Sheppard of Holden, WV.

Stepsons, Trent and Teresa Justice, Kelvin Justice, Eddie Justice, Frank and Christa Justice, Tony Justice and stepdaughter, Tonya Justice.

Seven step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. The visitation is at 1 p.m. preceding the service.  Dr. Steve Williams of Hartwell, Georgia will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Low Gap, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church Capital Campaign, Anderson, SC or Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson, SC.

ROBERT L. SCARBORO

OCTOBER 15, 1944 – AUGUST 5, 2011

PENDLETON, SC – Robert Lee Scarboro, age 66, of 210 Kirk Lane, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011, at his home.

Born October 15, 1944, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Ezra Scarboro and Dorothy Mae Scarborough Scarboro and was a 1973 graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School. On March 31, 2000, he retired from the Pendleton Police Department following a law enforcement career of thirty-two years.  Following retirement, he was South Carolina State Constable for two years.  Mr. Scarboro was a member of LaFrance First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Garland Scarboro, of the home; six children: Robby Scarboro of Anderson, SC, Randy Scarboro and wife, Kathy, of Honea Path, SC, Alison Bates and husband, Kenny, of Easley, SC, Trinna Doyle and husband, Cary Jr., of Anderson, SC, Tonya Freeman of Anderson, SC, and Kimberly Swaney and husband, Brad, of Pendleton, SC; sister, Bonnie Starnes and husband, James, of Hartwell, GA; eight grandchildren: Brandi Scarboro, Ken Bates, Kerri Bates, Kyle Bates, Cary “Doodle” Doyle III, Jordan Doyle, Paxton Swaney, and Peyton Swaney.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Linda Marcus. 

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Monday, August 8, 2011, at LaFrance First Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Gene Burdette, the Reverend Gordy Craft, and the Reverend Robert Durham.  Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, near Clemson.   Anderson County Sheriff’s Department as well as the former Pendleton Police Department will service as Honorary Escort.

The family is at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm on Sunday.  Mr. Scarboro will be placed into the Church at 3pm on Monday.

MRS. NELLE WILSON

JANUARY 22, 1926 – AUGUST 5, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Ruth Gaynelle “Nelle” Wilson, age 85, of 701 Autumn Oaks, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born January 22, 1926, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Crayton Wright and Julia Ann Evans Wright.  Mrs. Wilson graduated from Anderson Girl’s High School and was a devoted homemaker. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir as long as her health permitted.   

Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, James Carl Wilson; daughter, Sylvia W. Shaw and husband, David M. Shaw, of Anderson; son, Danny Wilson and wife, Susan Wilson, of Iva; grandsons: Johnny Shaw and wife, Lizette Shaw, and Eric Stansell and wife, Misty Stansell; and five great grandchildren.   Mrs. Wilson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, August 8, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dr. Larry Pearson, the Reverend Gordon Taylor, and the Reverend U.C. Neill.  Interment will follow in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery. 

The family is at the home of David & Sylvia Shaw, 102 Autumn Oaks, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Sunday.

PATSY S. LOVE

FEBRUARY 10, 1927 – AUGUST 5, 2011

BELTON, SC – Patsy Lou Stroud Love, age 84, of 109 Carroll Lane, passed away on August 5, 2011, in Seneca, SC.

Born February 10, 1927, in Hillsboro, TX, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Stroud and Mattie Beckham Stroud, and was married on May 7, 1948, to James Doyle Love who passed away on November 22, 2007; they were married fifty nine and one-half years. She was a graduate of Tarleton University, having earned a Business degree with a minor in Piano.  Mrs. Love was a devoted housewife and mother who enjoyed gardening and cooking. Additionally, she enjoyed teaching art – particularly oil painting. In earlier years she was a member of the Belton Music Club and served as a Girl Scout Leader as well as Cub Scout den mother.  Mrs. Love was a member of the Williamston Church of Christ, where she had served in various capacities, namely Sunday school and VBS teacher, church camp cook, and as an organizer for special events.

Survivors include her children: a son, C. Alan Love and wife, Rita Love, of Ft. Worth, TX; a daughter, Suzanne L. Broome and husband, David Broome, of Seneca, SC; a daughter, Sally Love of Belton, SC; grandchildren: D. Chad Broome and wife, Stacy Broome, of Westminster, SC, R. Blake Cring and Pam Davenport of Greenville, SC, and E. Brandon Cring and wife, Joy Cring, of Columbia, SC; and great grandchildren: N. Tyler, Z. Gavin, and Leah M. Broome, all of Seneca, SC, and Sierra and Sydney Cring of Greenville, SC, and Jillian and Hunter Cring of Columbia, SC.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, J. Erik Broome; and sisters: Valma S. Showalter, Opal S. Jones, Artie S. Mason, and Lorene S. Sanford.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4pm on Monday, August 8, 2011, at the Williamston Church of Christ, conducted by Patrick Cox and Aaron Howard.

AUGUST 30, 1952– AUGUST 2, 2011 

STARR, SC – Roger Dale Williams, age 58, of 102 Young Road, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2011.

Born in Lowndesville, SC, he was a son of the late Claude Telford Williams and Estelle Moore Williams. He was a roofer and attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. 

Survivors include his spouse, Mikal McAlister; children: John Williams of Belton, and Misty Williams of Anderson; siblings: Annette Jackson of Abbeville, Claudine Sessoms of Belton, Thomas Williams of Anderson, Ronald Williams of Anderson, Delores Garrett of Belton, and Kenneth Williams of Starr; and two grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Linda Williams; and a sister, Glenda Landreth.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, August 5, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Sam Duncan. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. 

The family is at the home of Delores Garrett, 204 Haynie Mill Road, Belton, (off of Whiten Road from US Highway 29 North), and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday.

MARGARET KAY

MARCH 27, 1930 – JULY 31, 2011

ANDERSON, SC – Margaret Treva Suttles Kay, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and other family members on Sunday, July 31, 2011.

Born March 27, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Haskell Suttles, Sr., and Treva Speer Suttles.  Mrs. Kay retired from Anderson Area Medical Center as a ward secretary and was a member of Eureka Baptist Church where she served a Sunday school teacher for 35 years.

Survivors include her husband, Weldon Lavern “Tottie” Kay; son, Gary Lavern Kay; daughters: Joyce Kay Grogan and Jeanne Kay Davis, all of Anderson, SC; grandchildren: Jason M. Grogan of Ocala, FL, David M. Grogan, Kelly Marie Smith, and Mathew Stephen Davis, all of Anderson, SC; and great granddaughter, Soffia Grogan Millan of Ocala, FL.  She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings: John Haskell Suttles, Jr., Samuel Carroll Suttles, William Lawrence Suttles, Caroline Suttles, Payne, Orpha Lee Bradberry, and Dorothy Rita Powell.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 6, 2011, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Ron Fousek and Jason M. Grogan.  Burial will follow in First Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

LEVIS O. ROBINSON

August 20, 1938 – August 2, 2011

SANDY SPRINGS, SC - Levis Oscar Robinson, age 72, husband of Willine Wilson Robinson, of Sandy Springs, SC passed away on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Sandy Springs, SC on August 20, 1938, he was a son of the late Lee Oscar Robinson and Ludellar Whitfield Robinson Owens.  Mr. Robinson served in the United States Army and worked in the construction industry for many years.  He later retired from Clemson University, Maintenance Department.  He was a former member of the Sandy Springs Fire Department.  

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Marty Robinson and his wife, Shanon of Iva; daughters, Melanie Dale and her husband, Charlie of Pendleton and Laura R. Gambrell of Belton; six grandchildren, Caleb Dixon, Katelyn Robinson, Claire and Bethany Dale, Annabelle and Wyatt Gambrell.

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Alex Henderson. Interment with Military Honors will follow in M. J. “Dolly” Veterans Cemetery.

DONNA I. SAGE

ANDERSON - Donna Marie Inwood Sage, 76, of 400 Cumberland Way, wife of Darrell D. Sage, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born July 1, 1935 in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gleason T. and Geraldean Newman Inwood. She was a graduate of Alfred State College in Alfred, NY and upon completion she became a Medical Laboratory Technologist. She worked for several hospitals and medical clinics as a Registered Histologist. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Chancel Choir. Donna was also involved in the Red Hat Society, Anderson Meals on Wheels, Electric City Playhouse and Concert of Hope and Remembrance Chorale. She was a past member of the Anderson Senior Follies as a performer and the Box Office Manager. She enjoyed reading, knitting, singing and working in her flower gardens. She was best known as the Hallmark lady and for her trademark smiley face signature.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Darrell Sage; daughter, Sabra Ann Sage Dunton of Middlesex, NY; 2 sons, David Darrell Sage of Norfolk, VA and Douglas Darrell Sage of Elkton, MD; 9 grandchildren, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Kara, Kelsey, Courtney, Gabriel, Cassandra, Carly and Natalie and 2 great grandchildren, Blake and Aiden.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Batson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor.

TOWNVILLE - Ryan Anthony Lee Fant, 17, of 400 Oakdale Rd., died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born December 17, 1993 in Anderson, he was the son of Frank and Judy Royster Fant. He was a rising senior at Pendleton High School and was of the Baptist faith. 

Surviving are his parents, Frank A. and Judy Elaine Royster Fant of the home; sister, Amber Fant of Spartanburg; paternal grandmother, Mae Fant of Pendleton and maternal grandmother, Hilda Royster of Townville. Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Clayton Royster and paternal grandfather, Rudolph Fant. 

Funeral service will be held at 3pm Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. David Blizzard officiating. Burial will follow in Townville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N. The family is at the home of his grandmother, Mae Fant, 104 Long Rd., Pendleton.

ANNIE M. DAVIDSON

ANDERSON- Annie McLauchlin Davidson, 93, of 2203 Marchbanks Ave., widow of the late Jack B. Davidson, died July 27, 2011 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born February 22, 1918 in Hai-Cho, China. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of Pendleton Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her son, Jack B. Davidson, Jr. of Astoria, NY and sister, Katherine Peterson and her husband, Lyle. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne R. Davidson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

MELVIN E. NOBLE

ANDERSON - Melvin Eugene Noble, 77, of 1501 E. Greenville St., husband of the late Helen Y. Noble, died Friday, July 29, 2011 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born April 12, 2011 in Pickens, he was the son of the late Tommy and Ina Howell Noble. Melvin was retired and was a member of NewSpring Church.  

Surviving are his children; Melvin E. Noble, Jr., of Sanford, NC; Kathy Tyler of Whittier, CA; Bill Hohn of Coral Springs, FL and Perry Noble of Anderson; step-daughter, Pam Hall of Anderson; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dewy, Arthur and Thomas and 2 sisters, Patsy and Caroline. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Myrtle and Normi.  

A private service will be held at a later date.

JERRY SANDERS

June 9, 1943 – July 26, 2011 

PENDLETON, SC - Daniel Jerry Sanders, age 68, of 300 Sanders Road, died after several years of declining health on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC on June 9, 1943, Mr. Sanders was a son of the late Elbert Nevitte Sanders and Louise Campbell Sanders.  He was a graduate of Pendleton High School and the University of Alabama earning a degree in civil engineering.  He was a United States Marine Corps veteran having served in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Sanders retired from Fluor Daniel as a structural steel engineer with 33 years of service.  He enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, photography and playing golf.  He was a lifetime resident of Lebanon Community and was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Tanya Sanders; step-son, Joe Coates; brother, Donald N. Sanders and his wife, Norma and sister, Mary Louise White and her husband, Donnie; one niece; one nephew and two great nephews.  

A Graveside Service with Military Honors, will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 am at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Harry Warren.

The family will be at the home of his brother, 301 Sanders Road, Pendleton, SC.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 5150 Gentry Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
