CURTIS GILLESPIE

ANDERSON - Curtis Doyle Gillespie, 80, husband of Peggy Pruitt Gillespie, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at his residence.

Born August 9, 1932 in Six Mile, he was the son of the late Doyle Diaz and Bertha Curtis Gillespie. He served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Anderson Boys High School and Clemson University. Mr. Gillespie was an Architectural Engineer and co-owner of Gillespie Construction Co. He was a Legacy Mentor at Calhoun Elementary School and was a recipient of the Matthew Cheek Service to the Child Award. He volunteered at the Anderson County Art Museum and was an avid participant at the YMCA. He enjoyed gardening and tennis. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Sojourners Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Gillespie; two daughters, Cindy Buice and husband, Jack Buice; Anna Smith and husband, Michael Smith; nephew, reared in the home, John Pruitt and wife, Rosanne Pruitt, all of Anderson; grandchildren, Carlisle Baker and husband, Bee Baker, Julia Evatt and husband, Dr. Kyle Evatt, Parker and David Smith, Crayton and Martin Pruitt; and one great granddaughter, Meriwether Baker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Gillespie.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. The family will receive friends following the service at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.

Myrtle G. Wells

ANDERSON-  Myrtle Daisy Gambrell Wells, 90, of Anderson, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born October 15, 1921 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hammond and Della Williamson Gambrell. She was twice married, 1st to the late Quill Dutton and 2nd to the late Roy Wells. She was a biscuit maker at Katherine's Kitchen and was of the Baptist faith.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by sisters, Eunice Adams, Blanche Blume, Alma Swaney and Hazel Azar and brothers, Ralph and Max Gambrell. She is survived by 6 nieces and 3 nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Sam Autry, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 prior to the service at Sullivan-Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

DR. PAUL D. FAULKENBERRY

ANDERSON - Paul Donald Faulkenberry, 80, husband of the late Ruth Calhoon Faulkenberry, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born June 21, 1932 in High Point, NC, he was the son of the late John Edward and Minnie Esther Brady Faulkenberry. He received his PhD from Purdue University. Dr. Faulkenberry was an ordained Elder, Minister, and Educator. He was a member of Bridge of Hope Community Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula R. Butcher and husband, Mark of Leavenworth, WA, and Rachel E. Homler and husband, Richard of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren, Claton Mark Butcher and wife, Renee, Traver Paul Butcher, Bradley John Butcher, Stephanie Glinn Whitener and husband, Tom, Paul Randall Glinn, and Melissa Glinn; and one great grandchild, Addison Michelle Glinn Sullivan.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Miriam Faulkenberry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Mark Butcher. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 1 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

JAMES H. THOMPSON

ANDERSON - James Henry Thompson, 85, of 3308 Howland Drive, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born June 26, 1927, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Henry and Mae Moore Thompson. He was a Navy Veteran having served in WWII and was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge #240AFM. Mr. Thompson later worked at Wamsutta Mills and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

Surviving are his children, Tanis Veres (George) of Pelzer, Darryl Thompson (Miriam) of Spartanburg, Dehn Thompson (Margie) of Anderson, DeeDee Galuppi (John) of Camden, DeEtte Burton of Anderson and Duff Thompson (Debbie) of Westminster; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tab Thompson of Easley and Jack Thompson of Anderson and 3 sisters, Viola Griffin of Belton, Donna Jean Styles of Travelers Rest and Margaret Dillard of Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Moore Thompson; son, Rick Thompson; brothers, Carlisle, Floyd and Harold Thompson and sisters, Fredda Acker and Ninetta Spearman.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 3pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 until 2:30 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Hwy 81. The family is at the home of his daughter, Tanis Veres, 136 Colonial Dr., Pelzer.

THERESA ANN STEINBACH

JUNE 30, 1916 - SEPTEMBER 16, 2012

ANDERSON - Theresa DalPonte Steinbach, 96, formerly of Sidney, Nebraska, widow of John Steinbach, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Sterling, CO, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Lazaretti DalPonte. She was a house wife and member of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Hoier (Kenneth) of Wheeling, West Virginia; son, John Steinbach (Carol) of Sidney, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; Dave Steinbach (Margaux) of Phoenix, Arizona; Julie Pile (Tom) of Sidney, Nebraska; Monica Grier (Michael) of Anderson, Tara Hutchcroft (Jerry) of Potosi, Wisconsin and James Hoier of Thornton, Colorado; 13 grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and 3 sisters, Esther Vecchia, Louise Kloberdanz and Mary Mildenberger, all of Sterling, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Don DalPonte and a sister, Ann
Leino.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Hwy 81. Funeral service will take place in Sterling, CO later in the week.

Leon Henry Tate

ANDERSON – Leon Henry Tate, 82, died Sept. 15, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born on Feb. 16, 1930, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Lila Mae Tate. Retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglas, he attended Eureka Baptist Church of Anderson, and was a Korean War Veteran. He was active in the Campbell Patriots, American Legion Post #184, where he was named Legionnaire of the Year in 2010. Leon was also a previous Trustee of Little River Electric CO-OP. He truly enjoyed spending time on his farm with his animals and with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ables Tate and his siblings, Maurine T. Parker, Aurelia T. Parker, Lewis B. Tate, and John L. Tate.

He is survived by his sister, Montezz T. Sammons of Taylors, SC and his brother, Rodger Tate, of Anderson. Also survived by his children, Maria T. Stone and her husband David of Belton, R. Russell Tate and his wife Cathy of Greenville, and Beth T. Herron and her husband Walter of Anderson; Beloved grandchildren, Austin Stone and his wife Heather of Williamston, Cason Stone and his wife LeeAnna of Anderson, Hannah Stone, Olivia and Colton Herron, Nicholson, Evan and Emerson Tate; and great-grandson, Caden Leon Stone.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Ron Fousek. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors provided by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.

JANE ADAIR

ANDERSON - Jane Holmes Davis Adair, 60, wife of Henry Adair, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at NHC of Anderson.
Born October 16, 1951 in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Jack Hayne Davis, Sr. and Elizabeth Milling Davis Copeland. She was a graduate of Clemson University. Mrs. Adair was a teacher, loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Henry, of the home; daughter, Henri Holmes Adair Baker and husband, Jeff; son, Ross Davis Adair, Sr. and wife, Bethany; grandchildren, Kayla Dobbins Adair, Davis Adair, Caroline Jane Baker, and Hattie Adair Baker, all of Anderson; sisters, Betsy McKinney and husband, Charles of Clinton, and Susan Davis and husband, Jim Gereg of Danbury, CT; and a sister-in-law, Linda Davis of Huntsville, AL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack H. Davis and Joe Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. David J. Bailey and Rev. Allyson Helvie. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. KATHRYN HENDRICKS

November 15, 1919 - September 12, 2012

PELZER - Kathryn Freeman Hendricks, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Born in Pickens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Gardner Freeman and the late Evelyn Banks Freeman. She grew up in the Glassy Mountain area of Pickens, SC and attended Winthrop University. After her marriage in 1938 to James Rhett Hendricks, she moved to Pelzer, SC, where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Williamston, SC for over 73 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Hendricks Wyke (Tom) of Charlotte, NC; two sons, James Rhett Hendricks, Jr. (Paula) of Pawleys Island, SC and Dr. David Freeman Hendricks (Joy) of Anderson, SC; one brother, David Lynn Freeman of Greenville, SC; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her one brother; three sisters and one grandson.

A memorial service will be at 3pm Friday, September 14, 2012 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. Brad Bardin officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Sullivan-King Mortuary,  Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

JET McCLELLION

ANDERSON – Matthew Cobb “Jet” McClellion, 15, of 102 Savannah Drive, died Friday, September 7, 2012.

Born January 14, 1997 in Greenville, he was the son of Donna Myers McClellion and the late William Richard "Dicky" McClellion, Jr. He was a sophomore at T. L. Hanna High School where he played Baseball and was a member of the Fishing team. Jet also played on the traveling baseball team for the Warriors and worked at the Anderson Jockey Lot. He attended First Baptist Church and NewSpring.

In addition to his mother, Jet is survived by his aunt, Mary Jane Carraway; brothers, William Richard “Mac” McClellion, III and Joseph Michael “Mich” McClellion, all of Anderson; sisters, Amanda Caron McClellion Downs, Sara Elizabeth McClellion, both of Anderson and Whitney Sloan Ramsey of Pendleton; special sister, Khusbu Patel; niece and nephews, Chase, Erin, Caison; aunts, Julia Spalding of FL and Sheila Houston of NC; uncle, Tracy Myers of China; grandfather, Charles P. Myers of Franklin, NC and several cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 4pm Monday at First Baptist Church of Anderson.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 7pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. A candlelight service will be held in front of T. L. Hanna in memory of Jet on Monday evening at 9pm.

The family is at the home of his mother, 151 Easy Gap Road, Anderson.

FRANCES FOSSUM

April 8, 1928 – September 5, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Mary Frances McClain Fossum, age 84, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at NHC of Anderson.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late James Cornelius McClain and the late Sarah Elizabeth Sanders McClain.  Frances was a 1945 graduate of Girls High. She was a lifetime member and Past President of VFW Auxillary and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Hamby, Marlane Barnette, Pat Brown and Cathy Monroe, all of Anderson; a brother, James Clayton McClain of Rabon Gap, GA; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William Fossum; and their son, Loren Fossum.

The Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Benjamin Smoak officiating.  The family will be at their respective homes and will gather for a time of visitation following the service.

OLLIE W. DUNN

October 20, 1927 – September 5, 2012

Ollie W. Dunn, age 84, of 116 Stone Drive, Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Westminster, SC, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Ramey Wilbanks and the late Effort James Wilbanks.  

Mrs. Dunn was an assembly line worker in the plastics division at the Singer Company, which later became the Ryobi Corporation.  She retired in 1990 so as to spend more time with family.  Ollie was of the Baptist Faith, but attended Westside Church of God of Prophecy for many years.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Calvin T. Dunn of the residence; a son, Gary Dunn of Anderson; a daughter, Martha Dunn of Anderson; a brother, Earl Wilbanks and his wife, Peggy, of Anderson; 4 sisters, Ruby Shaw and her husband Frank, of Anderson, Ruth Tiller and Nellie Hayes of Anderson, and Betty Shank of Lawrenceville, IL.;  granddaughters, Wendi Gillette and husband, Jon, Robin Price and husband Randy, Danon Gilstrap and husband, Tyler; a great- grandson, Brandon Erwin and wife, Andrea.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Ollie Dunn will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 1 PM at the McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Larry Pearson officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family is at the residence of Martha Dunn, 106 Rontree Drive, Anderson, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 AM until 12:30 PM.

JULIE JUNKINS SANDERS

ANDERSON - Julie Junkins Sanders, 52, of 204 Woodridge Court, widow of Bradley E. Sanders, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born August 27, 1960 in Anderson, she was the daughter of Ansel D. and Barbara Freeman Junkins of Anderson. She was a member of NewSpring Church.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her daughter, Haley Sanders; her son, Joe Sanders; brother, Mike Junkins and wife, Essie, all of Anderson; special nieces, Ansley Junkins and Holly Howard; and nephews, Scott and Russell Junkins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Junkins Dove.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. Mack Tester and Rev. Michael Kinard. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the home of her parents, 204 Woodridge Court.
