Ann S. Johnson

Anderson, SC - Ann Singleton Sellers Johnson, 68, widow of Lamar Johnson, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at her home. 

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late V. M. and Margaret Shipman Singleton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Shaw (Bucky) and Jennifer Sellers (Roger Thrasher); one son, Jeff James, all of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jaden Carver, Jonathan Shaw, Rycen Thrasher, Mike Shaw and Sandy Evans; one great granddaughter, Haley Shaw; and two sisters, Faye Davis and Shelby Bright, both of Anderson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Damion Hutchins. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Family members are at their respective homes.

Mary Dominick Weeks

Anderson, SC - Mary Dominick Weeks, 81, died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at NHC of Anderson. 

Born March 25, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lucile Fant Dominick. She graduated from T.L. Hanna High School and attended Furman University where she met and married Lucius Weeks, Jr., with whom she had four children: Danny Weeks of Bodfish, California, Wesley Weeks (Michelle) of Coconut Creek, Florida, Lucile Nelson (John) of Mount Pleasant and Henry Weeks (Wayne) of Washington, DC. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Wesley Dominick Weeks of Coconut Creek, Florida, John Nelson, Jr. of Charleston, Joseph Lucius Nelson of Charleston and Sarah Weeks of Los Angeles, California; and one brother, Dick Dominick of Anderson.

Mary and Lucius lived in Louisville, Kentucky, Seneca, Spartanburg, Greenwood, Greenville and Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the course of Lucius’ work in the banking industry. Mary was a lovable person and made friends easily. She treasured and loved her friends and family dearly. The family is deeply grateful to her friend and caregiver, Susan Willis, whose faithfulness and devotion was truly like that of above.

Mary loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Central Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.

Anthony B. Brock

Anderson, SC - Anthony Barrett Brock, 37, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

Born in Anderson, he attended Tri-County Tech and Clemson University. He was a sales engineer with Bubba Tools. Anthony was an avid golfer and Clemson Fan. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Miranda Brock of the home; two daughters, Kaylee and Rylee Brock; parents, Darwin C. and Reba Brown Brock; and a sister, Melinda Wheeler, all of Anderson. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell D. “Rusty” Brock. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Parkwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Joe Whisnant. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. The family is at the residence.

Barbara Forshee

Anderson, SC - Barbara Poore Burden Forshee, 78, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at NHC of Anderson.

Born November 1, 1936 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecil Jones Poore.  She was retired from Pulliam Investment Company and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Joe F. Burden, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Anderson; grandchildren, Alisia Forshee and Tara King; great grandchildren, Kylie King, Maeva King and Hayden Forshee; sister, Linda Bryant; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnne P. Woodward Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

Blake Campbell

Pelzer, SC - Austin Blake Campbell, 17, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Robin Lanier Campbell and the late Willard B. Campbell, Jr. He was a rising senior at Palmetto High School where he was a member of the Varsity Wrestling and Soccer teams. He also attended Tri-County Tech. Blake was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Robin; two sisters, Emily Campbell of the home and Trudi Winstead (Shannon) of Tamassee; brother, Chris Campbell (Sarah) of Williamston; maternal grandparents, Robert and Nancy Lanier of Mount Pleasant; three nieces and a nephew.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willard and Elizabeth Campbell.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Whitefield Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home.

Don Hendrix

Anderson, SC - Donald Henry Hendrix, 90, husband of Libby Hendrix, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Greer, he was the son of the late Tom W. and Florence Hendrix. He was a U.S. Army-Air Corp veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific and Japan. Mr. Hendrix was retired from Duke Power Company with 39 years service. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Life Deacon and was a member of the Tom Allen Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine and a half years, Libby Hendrix;  daughter, Tracey Ramsey and husband, Don; son, Don W. Hendrix and wife, Patsy, all of Anderson; three grandchildren, Melissa Hendrix Davidson and husband, Jeremy, Don H. Hendrix and Leigh Ramsey; sister-in-law, Jean Hendrix; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Earl Hendrix and Gene Hendrix and two sisters, Fay Hendrix Trammell and Carol Hendrix Floyd.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. Military honors will be provided by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. the family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. The family is at the residence.

Bud Kelly

Kenneth "Bud" Kelley, 80, husband of Betty Karr Kelley, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Sterling House in Clemson.

Mr. Kelley was born in Anderson and was the son of the late Jess G. and Margaret Gillespie Kelley. He owned Kelley's BP Station in Clemson for thirty eight years, was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of Pendleton First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Amanda (Roy) McDuffie of Little River, SC; three sisters, Pat Holder of Pendleton, Peggy Hinds of Greenwood and Beth Beckett of Pickens; three grandsons, Reid, Sawyer and Hudson McDuffie.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Aria Taylor and Kattie Sullivan, Bud's caregivers.

The family will receive friends in the social hall of Pendleton First Baptist Church, beginning at 2:30 PM Sunday, August 2, 2015.

Montez S. McCombs

Anderson, SC - Montez Smith McCombs, 84, widow of Arthur McCombs, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Lavonia, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Joe J. and Gladys Smith. She was a former beautician and later worked as a sales associate at Garrett’s Department Store and Centerville Dress Shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a choir member for many years and also served on the Kitchen Committee. She was a former member of Forest Hill Baptist Church where she served on the Building Committee.

Survivors include three sons, Philip A. McCombs (Becky), Jimmy R. McCombs (Donna), and David A. McCombs; five grandchildren, Dr. Jonathan W. McCombs (Christina), Amanda M. Miller (Rich), P. Jared McCombs (Mary), Emily Rogers (Devin) and Olivia McCombs; and four great grandchildren, Avrey T. McCombs, Chase A. McCombs, Wesley Day and Tye A. Miller

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Randolph Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason, Rev. Josh Hunt and Dr. Jonathan McCombs. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Matt Sanders

Anderson, SC - Matthew Andrew Rayford Sanders, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Matthew Rayford “Bud” Sanders and Gladell Baker Holloway. He was a retired cosmetologist and R.N. Mr. Sanders sang with The Eastern Sky Gospel Singers for 20 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Jimmie H. Campbell of Belton and Betty Lowe (Dan) of Anderson; several nieces and nephews including two nieces reared in the home, Skye Arwood Sellers and Lisa Arwood Thompson; and a great nephew, Jamie Nimmons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Johnnie H. Thacker and Lucille H. Arwood.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Old Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

He served his God for many years and now he is happy and at home with his Lord.

Reba Bridges Gambrell

Anderson, SC - Reba Sue Bridges Gambrell, 86, widow of James Robert Gambrell, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Furman Carlton and Leona Allen Bridges. She had several jobs: at LaFrance Industries in the Industrial Engineering Department; at Dow as a chemist assistant; at J.C. Penney as a retail associate; and at AnMed Hospital as a ward secretary. Most importantly she served the Lord as a wife and mother to her family, Cub Scout leader, an active church member, and friend to all in her community. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and formerly attended Zion United Methodist Church and Asbury Baptist Church.

 Through the love of Christ, she loved children and all people, regardless of their color or socio-economic status. She was a forgiving woman who prayed constantly for her family, friends and neighbors. She loved to read the Bible and write about what she read. She judged no one. She recognized the saving grace of Jesus Christ and thanked him continuously until her last breath. In her own words she wrote: “Praise the Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you. Thank you. We love you God. We love you Lord Jesus. Thank you. Thank you for all the things you have done and for the things that you are going to do. How wonderful it is to serve you!”

Survivors include two sons, J. Chester Gambrell of Florence and R. David Gambrell and wife, Jackie of Powdersville; two grandchildren, Aaron and Lydia Gambrell; two sisters, Barbara Hardy and Frances McCurley of Anderson; and a brother, W. Carlton Bridges and wife, Donna of Anderson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy and Harold Bridges.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Larry Ferris. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. The family will be at the home of a sister, Barbara Hardy, 5213 Highway 187, following the service.

Dorothy Acker

Anderson, SC - Dorothy Jean McKinney Acker, 85, widow of Glenn Acker, Jr., died Monday, July 27, 2015 at NHC of Anderson. She had been a resident of Marchbanks Assisted Living for the past eight years.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Hillery Clifford and Reedie Lee Queen McKinney. Mrs. Acker was a former employee of the Anderson County Auditor’s Office and was a lifelong member of Anderson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Glenn Acker (Kay) and Kenneth Gene Acker (Allison); seven grandchildren, Erik Acker, Jon Acker, Jared Acker, Derek Acker, Tyler Hinchcliff, Kelly Rodes and Marisa Hinchcliff; eleven great grandchildren, Addie, Bella, Scott, Bryson, Colby, Josiah, Nathanael, Titus, Elyse, Liam, and Weston.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Rodes; sisters, Evelyn Browning, Margie Thompson and Elizabeth Woodson; and a brother, Hillery C. McKinney, Jr.

Bruce Mann

Anderson, SC - Earl Bruce Mann, 84,  passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Earl L. and Anna Elizabeth DeHart Mann. Mr. Mann was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a retired Division Manager at Bellsouth and member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Patt Railing Mann of the home; daughter, Debra Lee Mann of Anderson; sister, Constance O'Hara of California and brother-in-law, Eugene Railing of Interlachen, Florida. 

No services are planned at this time.
