Anderson County's unemployment rate dropped to 2.8 percent in October, down slightly from 2.9 percent in September.

The county set a record for total number of those employed, with 89,469 working, topping the previous record fo 89,207 in July 2020.

“This is why we work so hard to promote economic development opportunities in Anderson County”, said Anderson County Council Chair Tommy Dunn. “Twice during my service on Council we have seen national conditions cause widespread job market disruption, and twice we have been able to get our folks back to work by providing access to jobs across all industries and sectors.”

The decrease in the unemployment rate from 2020 is being attributed in large part to systemic recovery from the pandemic as well as a recent flurry of economic development announcements.

Statewide the unemployment rate fell to 3.9 percent, down from 4.1 percent in September. Nationally the rate of 4.6 percent was down from 4.8 percent in September.
