AnMed Health has been named South Carolina's top Oncology Research Specialist facility for 2018. Global Health Pharmaceutical has notified AnMed Health that it was nominated by the pharmaceutical industry and has won the award. It is given to the non-profit healthcare provider research specialist with the highest number of participants in its clinical trials.

Rhonda Ballew, RN, AnMed Health Cancer Center manager of oncology research and data management said, “When a patient goes on a clinical trial, a nurse is with them every step of the way through their treatment to make sure everything is done perfectly. It’s nice to see them get some recognition.”

AnMed Health Oncology has been conducting clinical trials for more than two decades. In the last three to four years, AnMed Health began pharmaceutical trialsIn the short time that AnMed Health has been involved in pharmaceutical clinical trials; it has been recognized two times nationally for getting the highest number of patients to participate.

The AnMed Health Cancer Center offers patients many of the same trials that are available at larger cancer centers throughout the U.S. “Anderson area cancer patients don’t have to drive to Spartanburg, Atlanta or Greenville to participate in clinical trials,” Ballew said.

Clinical trials are research studies that test new ways to prevent, detect, diagnose or treat disease. The treatments that patients receive today are based on the results of past clinical trials.
