Veterans Day Parade Nov. 13

The annual Anderson Verterans Day Parade will be held Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. in downtown Anderson. The event is now hosted by the Anderson County Veterans Association. The weekend of events begins Friday. A schedule is listed below.

Friday, November 11th – Veterans Day

11 a.m.  ‘Spirit of the Doughboy’ Ceremony  at the American Legion Post 14, East Greenville Street. This ceremony will include the unveiling of the new Doughboy Statue, which replaces the vandalized statue. Foothills Community Foundation spearheaded the replacement project. 

11 a.m.   Ringing of the Orr Lyons Mill Community Shift Bell eleven times to mark a special recognition of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

12 noon. Lest We Forget…In Remembrance

Anderson Ccounty Museum opens at noon on Veteran’s Day.

1 p.m.  Curator Alison Hinman will give a presentation on Corporal Freddie Stowers, the first African American awarded the Medal of Honor for World War I. The presentation will include discussions about the 92nd Division and the act of ultimate courage by Corporal Stowers and his delayed honor. 

6 - 8 p.m. An illuminating tribute honoring all Anderson County men and women who lost their lives in World War I service to our country. Refreshments will be served.

Sunday, November 13th

2 p.m. Anderson County Veterans Association presents the Veterans Day Parade, Downtown Anderson
