RICKY DEAN GAINES

April 19, 1959 – March 11, 2012 

SENECA, SC - Ricky Dean Gaines, age 52, of 126 Tokeena Road, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at his residence.  

Born in Anderson, Ricky was the son of the late Swift Gaines and Esoline Wiles Gaines.  He was a graduate of Crescent High School and was a member of Iva Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by brothers:  Tommy Gaines and his wife, Denise, and Jimmy Gaines and his wife, Clara, all of Starr; sister, Elaine Timms, of Iva; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews.

Ricky was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Steve Gaines and brother-in-law, Ronnie Timms.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Johnny Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow at the Iva City Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Jimmy and Clara Gaines at 1728 Brown Road, Starr, SC.

EDWIN D. MOORE

ANDERSON - Edwin "Footsie" Daniel Moore, 76, of 209 Edwards Drive, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born September 3, 1935 in Carnesville, GA, he was the son of the late Guy Daniel and Gracie Jewell Chatham Moore. He was retired from BASF and was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge #68.

Surviving are his daughter, Lynne Mays; 3 grandchildren, Cory Mays, Lydia Coker and Eden Mays; great granddaughter, Veda Mays and Ed's significant other, Clara Moon all of Anderson.

A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11am Wednesday at New Silver Brook Cemetery with Rev. Beryl Rosenberger officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

The family is at the home of the daughter, 606 Cathey Road, Anderson.

ANDERSON, SC - Thomas Aaron Turner, age 30, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

Born in Anderson on June 12, 1981, Aaron was a graduate of Westside High School, Class of 2000.  He was formerly employed with Wal-Mart. 

Survivors include his mother, Ferndale Ledford Filipink; father, Claude Turner and his wife, Stesney; sister, Claudia Ford and his half-sister, Martha Foster.

The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, March 9, 2012, at 1:00 pm with the Reverend James Sparks officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MICHAEL “ERIC” MILES

MAY 13, 1969 – MARCH 9, 2012

BELTON, SC  - Michael Eric Miles, age 42, of 142 Pine Lake Ranch, husband of Krista Willis Miles, passed away at his home on Friday, March 9, 2012.

Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of Steve Miles and Jackie Sears Peluso.  He was a graduate of Westside High School. Mr. Miles was a warehouse manager with Bosch Rexroth in Fountain Inn, SC. He served in the United States Air Force, and he was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church, but was currently attending Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, and wife he is survived by his children Mackenzie and Jessica Miles, of the home, James and Tyler Miles,  both of Amsterdam, NY; sister Amy Miles Rhodes, and her husband Kenny, of Anderson; maternal grandparents Jack and Uree Sears of Anderson; and an uncle, Tony Sears of Lakeway, Texas. 

Preceding Eric in death were his paternal grandparents Gene and Ella Miles; and his step father, Bob Peluso. 

A Service Honoring the life of Eric Miles will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Mike Martin .  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home of Amy and Kenny Rhodes, 118 Benfields Ridge, Williamston, SC, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

JOHNNY  MARONEY

February 23, 1947 – MARCH 9, 2012

TOWNVILLE, SC - John Andrew Maroney, age 65, loving husband of Kathy Gibbs Maroney, went to be with his Lord  and Savior on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 5:30 in the evening.

Born in Anderson, SC, Johnny was the son of the late Grant Maroney and Ruby Nell King Maroney. He was retired from La France Industries after forty years of services. He was an avid vegetable gardener, and was a faithful member of Oakdale Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of forty-four years he is survived by his sons Mike Maroney and his wife, Stacey, and Barry Maroney, all of Townville, SC, and Danny Maroney and his wife, Gail of Fair Play, SC; grandchildren whom he adored, Alyssha, Zachary, Cody, Gracen; great- grandchildren Skyler and  Addisyn; sisters Nancy Maroney of Townville, SC and   Edna Sears and her husband, Roger of Anderson, SC; sister-in-law Mary Maroney; several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Henry Lee “Penny” Maroney.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Oakdale Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverend David Blizzard and Reverend Tim Marcengill.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Maroney will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm. 

The family is at the residence and will receive friends Monday, March 12, 2012 at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

DAVE MORRISSEY

June 23, 1939 – March 6, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Joseph David Morrissey, age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at his home.

Born in Bethlehem, PA, Dave was a graduate of Valley Forge Military School and Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He served 5 years as a Marine Corps Aviator receiving the rank of Captain.  He was an airline pilot for TWA retiring after 30 years of service. He was the founding person for the Marine Corps League in Anderson, SC. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Kay; his children: Kristin, Scott and his wife, Tamara, Ginger and her husband, Rob, and Tim and his wife, Katherine; brother, Jim; grandchildren:  Brittany, Blake, Ali, Tyler, Jackson, Tess, Reed, Jacob, Dallas, and Michael; and a great-granddaughter, Jaelynn Kay. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene James Morrissey, Sr. and Flora Elizabeth Johnson Morrissey, and a brother, Mike.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 10:00 am at St. John’s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dan Batson officiating.  A Committal Service will be held at MJ “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery on Monday, March 12, 2012, with Military Honors provided by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church Heritage Fund, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29621.

ANDERSON, SC - Sherry Meadows, age 46, of Anderson passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Orangeburg, SC, Sherry was the daughter of the late Elbert Meadows, Jr., and Barbara Loftis Courtright and her husband, Chester Cecil Courtright.  She was a graduate of TL Hanna High School and attended the Baptist College of Charleston and Tri-County Technical College.

She previously worked at Clarion Technology and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her mother and step-father and son, Anthony “Bubba” Yanez , all of Anderson.

The family will receive friends at the McDougald Funeral Home Friday, March 9, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home

Chapel Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Mark Dickson officiating.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Herbert Edgar Phillips

May 8, 1921 – March 6, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Herbert Edgar Phillips, age 90, of 127 Brittania Circle and husband of the late Evelyn Tinsley Phillips, passed away on March 6, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Greenville County, SC, Herbert was a graduate of Boys High School, Anderson, SC.  He retired from Spring Industries/Wamsutta Mill.  He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his son, Herbert Phillips, III; daughters, Nancy Hawkins and her husband, Terry, and Vivian Boozer, and her husband, Butch, all of Anderson; and 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 11:00 am, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Don Cox and the Reverend Randy Blank.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

MARGARET CAMPBELL

NOVEMBER 26, 1933 – MARCH 3, 2012

STARR, SC - Margaret Ellen Moore Campbell, age 78, wife of John W. Campbell, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Starr, SC on November 26, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Henry Newton Moore, Sr. and Geneva Brooks Moore.  She was a 1951 graduate of Starr High School, where she was a star basketball player, and in 1954 she graduated from the Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. From 1967 thru 1993 she was the district nurse for Anderson County School District# 3.  For several years she served as a volunteer with the Anderson County Board of Elections, and was a Chaplain for the Ladies Auxiliary of Gideons International.  She was an active charter member of Unity Baptist Church in Starr, where she was a former G.A. Leader and member of the WMU.

She is survived by her husband, John W Campbell, their children; John W. Campbell, Jr. and his wife, Hope of Anderson, Gregg B. Campbell and his wife, Karen of Starr, and Susan Campbell Pettigrew and her husband, Randy of Iva, grandchildren; Brandie Suzette Campbell, Mandie  Campbell Cummins and her husband, Michael, Will Turner, and Jake Turner, and one great grandchild, Campbell Grace Cummins. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Moore Bostic of Starr, and an aunt Evelyn Moore Wilson of Williamston.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Henry N. Moore, Jr. and Alvin Ray Moore.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 3:00 pm in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Roger Kendrick and Reverend Jerry Gray.

Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by Reverend Roger Estridge.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

BETTY R. KIRKPATRICK

December 28, 1926 – February 26, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Betty Rogers Kirkpatrick, age 85, of The Magnolias of Anderson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Born in Conway, SC, Betty was a daughter of the late James S. Rogers and Eleanor Southall Rogers. She was the Valedictorian of Conway High School, Class of 1943 and was a graduate of Smithdeal Massey Business College of Richmond, VA.  She was the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Agriculture at Clemson University, retiring after 25 years of service.  She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 40 years and served on various committees and groups of the church as long as her health permitted.

Betty is survived by her two sons, William O. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Joyce of Anderson, SC, and David M. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Dell of Spartanburg, SC; 4 grandchildren, Cameron, Bonnie, David and his wife, Catherine, and Drew and his wife Kaley; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ben and Taylor.

In addition to her parents, and husband of 65 years, Olin S. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick, she was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Following the private family Committal Service, the Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 3:00PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Eubanks officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

LARRY OLIN SMITH  

December 5, 1948 – March 1, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Larry Olin Smith, age 63, husband of Frances “Fran” Allen Smith, of 115 Woodbridge Court, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at his home after a year- long battle with cancer.

Born in Anderson, Larry is the son of Joseph Olin Smith and the late Annie Mae Sweezy Medlin.  He was a 1967 graduate of TL Hanna High School and was employed with Upstate Staffing as an On-Site Manager serving at Nutra, and AFR Company. Mr. Smith was formerly employed with MAU Staffing as an On-Site Manager serving Bosch, AFCO, and Tyco Company. He was formerly employed with BASF and Westinghouse. He served in the United States Army and attended NewSpring. He was an avid University of Georgia Bulldog football fan.  

He is also survived by his daughters:  Michelle Smith Lockhart and Tammy Smith Parks (Huitt Scarborough), both of Anderson; step-son, Gary Allen (Jill Allen), of Anderson; step-daughter, Debbie Whitfield (Ralph) of Anderson; 3 grandchildren:  Maggie, Will, and Blakely; 2 step grandchildren:  Shane and Eric; and 2 step great grandchildren: Tyler and Madison; brother, John “J W” Smith (Virginia); brother –in-law Zan Kirby (Carol), sisters- in-law: Pat Hagy (Don), Mary Jenkins (Gary) and June Sproles; a special uncle, Ed Poston; and a special family friend, Saul Vasquez.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm.  The Funeral Service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 5, 2012, at 2:00 pm.  Burial will be at MJ “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military honors.  Honorary escorts will be Rusty and Kelly Davis and the staff of Upstate Staffing.

CORAL L. STONE

CORAL L. STONE

ANDERSON - Coral Meryle Lynch Stone, 86, of 226 Town Creek Drive, widow of Frank C. Stone, died February 26, 2012 at the Carolinas Medical Center.

Born October 14, 1925 in Auckland, New Zealand, she was the daughter of Richard and Dora DeCoombs Lynch.   A kindergarten teacher at Holy Cross Episcopal Church for twelve years, she was also a dedicated volunteer in the Atlanta Hospital System.
Her passion for volunteering culminated in her position as director of the volunteer program.  She enjoyed the honor of being one of the Gracious Ladies of Georgia, and is a past queen of El Tehran Temple in Atlanta.  She became a member of the Koi Club in Anderson and her pond was a favorite on the annual tour.

She is survived by Terry and Susan Stone Holdredge as well as her son Kurt Stone all of Anderson.  Grandchildren include Dallas and Meryle Holdredge Martin, Jeff and Bethany Holdredge Mohr, Craig and Allison Holdredge Dobson and Pikey Joshua David Holdredge.  Her entire family loves her dearly and treasures her memory.

Also remaining in New South Wales, Australia is her sister, Peggy Lea, and in Auckland, New Zealand, her brother Jim Lynch.
