OTIS W. BROWN

ANDERSON- Otis William Brown, 75, of Woodside Ave., died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born July 3, 1936 in LaFrance, he was the son of the late J.B. and Ola Lee Smith Brown. He was retired from the US AirForce and also retired from Michelin Corp. He was a member of a Pope Drive Baptist Church and attended Boulevard Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Nichols-Brown of the home, sons, Ross, Chris and Alex Brown, grandsons, Will, Adam, Mason and Brandon Brown, brothers, Harold and Earley Brown, and sister, Margie Brown. He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Ben and Roda Brown and sister, Mary Wheeler.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Jack Couch officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The family is at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boulevard Baptist Church, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.

BILLIE SIMMONS

January 4, 1937 – March 23, 2012

Billie Hope Golden Simmons, age 75 of Anderson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 23, 2012 at The Rainey Hospice House.  

Born in Greer, SC, Billie was a daughter of the late William A. Golden and Lela J. Golden Carnes.   She was married to the late Dr. William L. Simmons and was an active and devoted member of Concord Baptist Church. 

Billie was the loving mother of Mark Golden Simmons and his wife Maureen of Columbia, SC and Warren Lewis Simmons and his wife Kelly of Anderson, SC; grandmother of Alex Simmons, Morgan Hudders, Andrew Simmons and Sara Grace Simmons; and great grandmother  of Remi Marie Simmons. 

She leaves behind her loving sister Pat Mullins of Greer, SC and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sister Linda G. Henderson.

Following a private family committal service, a Memorial Service celebrating the life of Billie will be held Monday, March 26, 2012 at 11AM at Concord Baptist Church, with the Reverend Dr. Don Cox and Reverend Randy Blank officiating.   

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

LINDA S. SPEARMAN

April 26, 1943 – March 23, 2012

WILLIAMSTON, SC - Linda Faye Spearman, age 68, passed away peacefully at her residence, 119 Philwood Drive, Williamston, on Saturday, March 24, 2012.   Born in Pickens County, SC, on April 26, 1943 she was married to Ernest H. Spearman and was a daughter of the late Arthur Lee Smith and Lida Sue Bruce Smith.   She retired from AnMed Home Health as a nursing assistant and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest, her  daughter, Melissa Brown (Randy) of Central; sons, Tim Smith (Robin) of Townville, James Smith of Missouri and step-son, Harley Spearman of Central.  

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Barry Wayne Smith and her sister, Deborah Lynn Mitchell.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012, at 2 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend Paul Williams.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.   

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 6 – 8 pm.

TED E. ROWLAND

PENDLETON- Ted Edward Rowland, 59, of 126 Lodge Rd., died Friday, March 23, 2012.

Born March 28, 1952 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Earl Clifton and Ruby Lou Fricks Rowland. He was an Army Veteran having served in Germany. Ted loved to fish and golf, however, his greatest love was his dog, Chewy. 

Surviving are his son, Shane Rowland, of Anderson, brother, Roy M. Rowland, of Anderson, sisters, Ann Evatt, of Pendleton and Maggie Violet McClellan, of Anderson. He was preceded in death by brothers, Rudolph, Norman, Vernon, Samuel and Ray Rowland and sisters, Barbara Wireman and Jennie Nan Rowland. 

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Neville Cemetery, Walhalla with Scott Fricks officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

FRANCES H. CHRISTMAS

ANDERSON - Frances Lee Hudson Christmas, 82, of 500 E. Fredericks Street, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.  

Born June 19, 1929 in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Fannie Kirby Hudson. She was a housewife and member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. 

Surviving are her husband, William A. "Bill" Christmas, III of the home; 3 children, Cindy Honeycutt of Walhalla, William A. "Andy" Christmas, IV and Anna Frances Caldwell both of Anderson; 6 grandchildren; Hannah, Marta and Lukas Honeycutt, William A. "Bill" Christmas, V and Christopher and Connor Caldwell and a sister, Doris Cronin of Greer. She is preceded in death by a sister, Dare Green and brother, James Hudson. 

Funeral service will be held at 4:30pm Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor J. Chris Fischer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. A private entombment will be held Wednesday morning.

CHARLES E. “TATER” SMITH

March 27, 1940 –Mach 23, 2012

Charles E. “Tater” Smith, age 71 of 102 Cann Street, Iva, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2012.  He was surrounded by his loving family, and especially his devoted wife of 55 years, Joann Bostic Smith. Born in Anderson on March 27, 1940, he was the son of Annie Burton Smith and the late Elmer Joseph Smith.  

Charles retired from Orr Mill after 42years of service as a Loom Fixer.  He was an active and devoted lifelong member of Rocky River Baptist Church. 

In addition to his wife, Joann Bostic Smith of the home, Charles is survived by his mother, Annie Burton Smith of Iva; 3 sons, Ronnie Smith (Lori) of Pickens, SC, Scotty Smith (Clorissa) of Anderson, and Russell Smith (Heather) of Iva;  2 daughters, Sharon Harvley (Mark)  and Tammy Boggs (Donnie), both of Iva; 3 brothers, James Smith (Carol) of Iva, Lawrence Smith (Janice) of Fort Smith, AK, and Duane Smith (Cornelia) of Greenwood, SC; 2 sisters, Sandra Watt and Carol Martin (Joe), both of Iva.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A service celebrating the life of Charles will be held Monday, March 26, 2012 at 4 PM at the Rocky River Baptist Church in Iva, with Rev. Steven Payne and Rev. Don Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rocky River Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Church on Monday from 2 PM until 3:30 PM.  The family will be at the home of Russell and Heather Smith, 624 Project Road, Iva, SC.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Smith may be made to the Rocky River Baptist Church, 3234 Lake Secession Road, Iva, SC 29655.

MATTIE L. MONTGOMERY

August 17, 1923 – March 23, 2012

SENECA, SC - Mattie Lee Loskoski Montgomery, age 88, formerly of Starr, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at The Seneca Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Anderson County, Mattie was the daughter of the late Augustus Loskoski and Ola Duncan Loskoski.  She was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Anderson Memorial Hospital for 27 years.  She was a member of Starr Baptist Church. 

She is survived by a son, Jimmy F. Montgomery and his wife, Mary, of Starr; a daughter, Alice Williams and her husband, Lamar, of Townville; and 3 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Graveside Services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 3:00 pm Sunday, March25, 2012, with Pastor Jim Crittendon officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Family members are at their respective homes.

MARY FRANCES NIXON McGARITY

July 23, 1945 – March 23, 2012

Mary Frances Nixon McGarity, age 66, of 2418 Marchbanks Avenue, Anderson, died at Rainey Hospice House on Friday, March 23, 2012.   She was born in Anderson.  Mrs. McGarity was raised in Starr, SC, the daughter of the late Frank Nixon and the late Delma Jefferson Nixon.  Preceding her in death was her first husband, the late Peter Rambusch, then her second husband the late Joseph Harrison McGarity.

Mary Frances was a 1963 graduate of Crescent High School in Starr.  During the year 1963 she reigned as “Miss Anderson.”  After completing Crescent High, she attended Marsh Business College in Atlanta.  She was a flight attendant with United Airlines.  She later worked in tourism with Capital Tours in Columbia, SC.  Most recently, Mary Frances was a leasing consultant with Tanglewood Apartments in Anderson.  She attended New Spring Church.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Nixon Rambusch and his wife, Aleisha of Anderson;  a sister, Nancy Nixon Nance of Orangeburg; a granddaughter, Bailey Nicole Rambusch of Anderson; a niece, Catherine Lee Nance of Atlanta.  The family would like to recognize special friends and caregivers Nancy Arnold and Rosemary Mahaffey. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 2 PM until 3:30 PM.  A private family service will be held at a later time.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. McGarity may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.  The family will always be grateful to the Association for its support during Mrs. McGarity’s illness.

RET Gunnery SGT George Albert Gray USMC  

ANDERSON- George Albert Gray, 77, of 117 Murphy Rd. husband of Joan Thomas Gray, died March 22, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born February 21, 1935 in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Albert and Edith Adams Gray. He was retired from the US Marine Corps where he served three tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea. Upon his retirement from the USMC he was a heavy equipment technician instructor. He was also a heavy equipment operator with the City of Anderson. George was a Sunday School Teacher and led many Mission Study groups. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. 

Surviving are his wife, Joan Thomas Gray of the home, daughter, Ramona G. Bowles and husband Gerard of Union, sons, John David Gray and wife, Carol Lisa of Anderson and Ace William Gray and wife, Sheila of Cleveland, GA, grandchildren, Ken Winchester, Adam Gray, Amber LaChappell, Chelsea Gray, Meghan Gray, Chivas Bowles and Aimee Jenkins and great granddaughter, Emma Riley Winchester.

Graveside services will be held at 2PM, Sunday at Roberts Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. John Davis officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Campbell Patriots Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8PM Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 N.

ROSA TRIBBLE

TOWNVILLE- Rosa Fant Tribble, 89, or 109 Seneca River Rd., widow of David Jefferson Tribble, died March 21, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born July 13, 1922 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Lessie Richard Fant. She was a graduate of Townville High School and attended Rabun Gap College. She was a retired textile worker and a member of Townville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca T. "Becky" Rogers, granddaughter, Candy R. Turpin and husband, Jeff and great granddaughter, Erica Miles, all of Townville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by brother, Samuel Fant, sisters, Nett Hall and Naomi Williams and son-in-law, Alvin Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday at Townville Baptist Church with Revs. Jim Crittendon and David Blizzard officiating. Burial will be in Townville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM prior to the service at the church. The family will be at the home of the granddaughter, 115 Seneca River Rd.

BRADLEY TROTTER

January 14, 1975 – March 20, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Bradley “Brad” Michael Trotter, age 37, son of Vickie Marshall Trotter and the late Gerald Thomas Trotter, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at AnMed Medical Health Center. 

Born in Anderson, Brad was a graduate of Crescent High School and attended Tri County Technical College. He was most recently employed at the Quality Foods in Hartwell, GA and had worked several years at Ingles as a meat cutter.  He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his mother, a daughter, Ashley Danielle Trotter; brothers, Gregory Thomas Trotter, and his wife, Angie, of Raleigh, NC and Jay Scott, US Marine Corps, San Diego, CA; grandparents, Claude and Doris Marshall, of Anderson, 4 aunts and 1 uncle.

He was predeceased by his father and grandparents, Grady and Hester Trotter.

A Mausoleum Chapel Service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11:00 am, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Reverend Dwight Greene officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

W. GERALD McCONNELL

April 1, 1945 – March 20, 2012 

ANDERSON, SC  - William Gerald McConnell, age 66, husband of Kelly Cooley McConnell, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of James William “Jim” McConnell and the late Stella Southerland McConnell. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran in the US Army. He retired from AnMed Health where he worked as an electrical engineer. He was an avid fisherman.  

In addition to his father and wife, Gerald is survived by his sons, Wayne, Jeff, and J. P. McConnell; brother, J. Randall McConnell; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, March 23, 2012, at 3:00pm at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veteran Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek officiating.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:15 pm.
