LEE ROBINSON

January 29, 1975 – April 10, 2012

STARR, SC - Raymond Lee Robinson, Jr., 37, of Starr, SC, passed away on April 10, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.  

Born in Anderson, he was the son of Mr. Raymond Lee Sr., and Gloria King Robinson.  Lee is a 1993 graduate of Crescent High School and served in the United States Air Force during The Gulf War. He was the owner of Audioworks Unlimited and was also a volunteer at New Life Christian Center.

In addition to his father and mother, survivors include his loving wife, Brandy Crosby Robinson; son, Ethan Robinson; daughter, Madison Robinson all of the home; brother, Tim Robinson; sister, Abigail Robinson, of Anderson; father and mother- in-law, Ricky and Rae Dean Crosby of Valdosta, GA.

Funeral Services will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 1:30pm, with Pastor Kiki Tant, and Pastor Jeremy Sears officiating.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Garden with military honors.  

The family will be at the home of his parents, 208 Wesley Court, Starr, SC 29684.  Receiving of friends will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 11:30 am until1:00 pm.

CENTENARIAN ALLEN HAYNIE

October 13, 1911 – April 8, 2012

Centenarian, Allen Ezekiel Haynie, died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at The Garden House, in Anderson.  Born, October 13, 1911 in Clem, Georgia, he was a son of the late Benton Summerlin Haynie and the late Mae Driver Haynie.  Mr. Haynie just celebrated his 100th birthday this past fall.  

Mr. Haynie finished the Carroll County Schools and then went to work for the State of Georgia.  He surveyed the first roads through the North Georgia Mountains.  He also served three and one half years during World War II in [North Africa, Italy, Sicily and Southern France in the U. S. Army as a decorated veteran receiving three bronze stars.   As a member of the 12th Air Force, his Troop Carrier Group was awarded the War Department Unit Citation for outstanding performances.  Following his military service, Allen received his higher education at one of North Carolina’s first technical schools.  His working career ended at his retirement at True Temper.  Mr. Haynie is a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a proud member of the American Legion.  
   
Left to carry on his Legacy is his daughter, Julia Whitmire and her husband Thomas of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Haynie Cash of Newnan, GA.

Those preceding him in death include his beloved wife, Claudia Baumgardner Haynie, daughter, Brenda Haynie Gailey and two brothers.  

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park officiated by Reverend Mell Davis.  Military honors will be conducted by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will be at their respective homes.  

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made in honor of Mr. Haynie to the Anderson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2262, Anderson, SC  29622.

Grace G. Stegall

May 14, 1927 – April 8, 2012

Grace Griffith Stegall, age 84, of 705 E. Mauldin Street, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at NHC Healthcare of Anderson.  Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Henry Anderson Griffith and the late Mae Gaillard Griffith.  She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Dayton Stegall for 57 years until his death in 2007.  

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Mrs. Stegall taught physical education and elementary education in the Greenville, Columbia and Anderson Public School Systems for 36 years.  She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the University Women’s Club at USC.  

Survivors include daughters, Angela S. Alexander and her husband, Mark, and Anna S. Taylor and her husband, Ken, both of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Marcus and Blake Alexander and Elijah and Michaela Taylor; brothers, Bill Griffith (Judy) of Florence, SC, and H.A. Griffith of Williamston, SC; and a sister, Emmaline G. Porter of the Piercetown Community.  

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret G. Hunter.

The funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Stegall will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 12:30 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Alan Stegall officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday from 6 PM until 8 PM.

BARBARA WINCHESTER

March 7, 1941 – April 8, 2012

STARR, SC - Barbara Wilson Winchester, age 71, of 222 Lisa Road, Starr, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Chester, SC, Mrs. Winchester was a daughter of the late Vernon Wilson and Dorothy Fay Cook Wilson Blanton.  She was a retired nurse and had worked at AnMed Health Rehab and Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital.   She was of the Baptist Faith.

Mrs. Winchester is survived by sons, Michael E. Fletcher and Dale Winchester, of Starr, SC; daughter, Kimberly Carter of Rome, GA; granddaughter, Rebecca Winchester Shabrach; brother, Michael Blanton; and sister, Martha Blanton, both of Anderson, SC.

BRENDA J. BRUCE

August 22, 1946-April 6, 2012

Brenda Janice Craft Bruce, age 65, of 4B Woodbridge Court, Anderson, SC passed away on Friday, April 06, 2012 at her daughter’s home.

Born in Oconee, SC, Ms. Bruce was the daughter of the late Lowell Dwight Craft and Helen Mae Evans Harper.  Walter William Evans, her grandfather, assisted in her upbringing.
Brenda was a homemaker and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Belton, SC.  Brenda was known as “Grandma” to all who knew her.  

A devoted mother, Brenda is survived by her son, Jason Bradley Bruce and his wife Rebecca of Travelers Rest, SC; daughters, Tracy Lynn Floyd and her husband Jeff of Anderson, SC, Tammy Ranae Horne-Bagwell and her husband Tim of Belton, SC, Misty Leah Little and her husband Tony, of Anderson SC; sisters, Jeanne Henslee, Dedra Gilliam, Beverly Harper, Bonnie Norris, and Kathy Johnson, all of Anderson; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Delia Bruce, son Anthony Scott Bruce, brother, Milton Addis, and sister, Rhonda Ponsell.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Ron Culbertson, and Reverend Jerry Mize. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Tammy, 354 Cheddar Road, Belton, SC, and will receive friends on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm.

HOWARD M. SMITH

August 26, 1933 – April 6, 2012

Howard M. Smith, age 78, of 150 Shadow Creek Lane, Anderson, died Friday, April 6, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Smith and the late Gladys Smith.  

Mr. Smith was retired as a Maintenance Supervisor at Owens Corning Fiberglass with over thirty years of service.  He had several special interests and hobbies.  He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed any kind of auto racing.  He also enjoyed golf.  Howard was a member of the Forest Hill Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a paratrooper.

Left to carry on his Legacy are two sons, Rodney H. Smith of Gainesville, GA, and Russell D. Smith, and his special friend, Judy Morris, of Anderson; a sister, Montez McCombs of Anderson.  He was also survived by a special lady, Hazel Gibson and her son, Steve, of Anderson.

Those preceding him in death include his beloved wife of 34 years, Claudine Evans Smith, his parents, and a brother, Randolph Smith.

A Service honoring the life of Howard Smith will be held Sunday, April 8, 2012, at 3:30 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard T. Lister officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will be at their respective homes, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 6 PM until 8 PM.

LEONARD RAY MOON

March 5, 1970 – April 5, 2012

Leonard Ray Moon, age 42, of 115 First Avenue, Starr, SC died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Rainey Hospice House of complications resulting from a hit and run accident which occurred in 1980.  Born in Anderson, he was the son of Henry F. Moon of the residence, and the late Lula Mae Wiles Moon.  

At the time of the accident he was a student at Starr Elementary School, and attended Grace Baptist Church.  

Survivors in addition to his father, include 3 brothers, Wayne Moon (Terri) of Starr; Gerald Moon (Nancy) of Iva; and Edward Moon of Starr; and a sister, Annette Scott of Starr. Ray is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is survived by a very special niece and caregiver raised in the home, Kimberly Goldsmith.  During his many years of incapacitation, Ray was cared for by all members of his loving family.  The family would like to express profound gratitude to all the churches, organizations, and individuals who have provided care for Ray over the many years.

A Funeral Service honoring and celebrating the life of Ray Moon will be held Monday, April 9, 2012, at 2 PM at the Gethsemane Baptist Temple with Rev. Greg Moon officiating.  Interment will be held at the Iva City Cemetery.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, April 8, 2012, from 6 PM until 8 PM.

MARVIN LLOYD HOARD

May 14, 1933 – April 5, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Marvin Lloyd Hoard, age 78, of 2501 Winslow Drive, Anderson, SC, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Newport News, VA, Mr. Hoard was the son of the late James Daniel Hoard and Mary Elizabeth Rawls Hoard.  He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a safety engineer employed by the BASF Corporation, where he retired after 37 years of service.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was the Wesley Sunday School Class Teacher, and member of The United Methodist Men.  Marvin was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Anderson, the Jimmy Ezelle Intercessory Prayer Group, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was an Anderson County Museum volunteer, and was a member and past Commander of The American Legion, Post No. 14.

A devoted father, Marvin is survived by his sons, Danny Hoard and his wife, Amy, Don Hoard and his wife, Beth, Doug Hoard and his wife, Delana, all of Anderson, SC, and David Hoard and his wife, Debbie, of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Robert C. Hoard; sisters, Mildred E. Craig, Janice L. Gaston, and Norma J. Banks; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Faye Shields Hoard and brother, James D. Hoard.

The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 2:00 until 3:30pm, followed by the funeral service beginning at 4:00pm with the Reverend Paul Frey officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors provided by Campbell Patriots Post 184.

The family will be at the home of Danny Hoard, 4020 Brackenberry Drive, Anderson, SC.

GEORGE WHITFIELD

August 8, 1936 – April 4, 2012

ANDERSON: Mr. George Edward Whitfield, 75, husband of Evelyn Wooten Whitfield, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late James Thadas Whitfield and Selma Whitfield.  Mr. Whitfield was a graduate of Hart County High School and served in the United States National Guard for 7 years.  He retired from the Singer Corporation after many years of service, following his retirement he owned and operated Ed’s Grocery Store. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a sister, Mary Whitfield Evans of Hartwell, GA; brother in law, Dr. Charles Wooten and his wife, Margaret of Anderson; sister in law, Glenda Mishoe of Greenville, SC.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at The McDougald Funeral Home.  The funeral will follow in the Chapel at 11:00 am with Dr. Tony Smith and Reverend David Blizzard officiating.  Burial will be held at Northview Cemetery in Hartwell, GA located at 175 N. Carolina Street, Hartwell, GA 30643.

HEATHER OVERCASH

AUGUST 13, 1991- MARCH 29, 2012

PENDLETON, SC - Heather Alysse Overcash, age 20, of 121 Bean Mill Way, passed away on March 29, 2012.

Born in Seneca, SC, Heather was the daughter of Creighton Brown “Butch” Overcash and Lisa Carol Nanney.   Heather was a 2010 honor graduate of Pendleton High School and was in the nursing program at Tri County Technical College.  She  had worked at AnMed Health Medical Center as a nursing assistant, and was preparing to work with Anderson County P.A.W.S.  Heather loved animals, and was raising and showing horses. Heather had many hobbies including her new interest in bowling.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her fiancé Kenneth Andrews, of Anderson; and several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.


She was preceded in death by a brother, Creighton Todd Overcash; grandparents, L.V. and Doris Overcash, Thomas and Shirley Nanney.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 2, 2012, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church Pendleton, officiated by Reverend Courtney Krueger and Reverend Jennifer McClung.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm before the service.

ROSE PRUETTE

November 12, 1928 – March 28, 2012

Mrs. Annie Rose Wolfe Pruette, age 83, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Anderson Place surrounded by her family whom she loved dearly.  Born in Abbeville, SC, on November 12, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Henry Olin Wolfe and the late Flora Todd Wolfe.  For 60 wonderful years, she was married to her devoted husband, Ralph L. Pruette.

Mrs. Pruette was a member of Parkwood United Methodist Church in Durham.  She started the software department in the student store at the University of North Carolina.  She retired from the University of North Carolina after many years of service.  Her many interests included the bridge club to which she belonged, ballroom dancing and playing and studying the piano.  She was an avid reader.  Perhaps Mrs.Pruette’s most special love was her grandchildren and time spent with them.

Left to carry on her legacy include in addition to her husband, Ralph, her sons, Dr. Ralph Pruette, Jr. and  wife, Windy, of Anderson, Henry W. Pruette  and wife, Eileen, of Durham, NC, James E. Pruette of Durham, John R. Pruette and wife, Donna of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Mary Todd Voorhees and husband, Col. Ted Voorhees of Williamsburg, VA; also surviving are eight very special grandchildren, Dr. Autumn Pruette, Todd Pruette, Megan Wilson, David Pruette, Edward Pruette,  John Henry Pruette,  Alaina Pruette,  and Ryan Pruette.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mrs. Rose Pruette  will be held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, NC, with Rev. Philip R. Cousin, Jr. officiating.  The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Chapel on Monday from 1 PM until 3 PM.

MICHAEL CROOK

October 13, 1959 – March 30, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Jack “Mike” Michael Crook, age 52, of 146 Cardinal Lane, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center after a long battle from injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

Born in Anderson, Mike was the son of Doris Simpson Crook and the late Jack Bronson Crook.
A graduate of McDuffie High School, he worked many years with Vickie at the
Fruit Punch Restaurant.  He had many hobbies, especially fishing, gardening, and outdoor cooking.  He was an avid race fan.

Survivors include his mother and the love of his life, Vickie Lynn Barbee, and her son, Brantley Barbee, of the home.  He also leaves behind a sister, Emily Jacobs and her husband, Bill, of Anderson; a niece, Andrea McKee and her husband, Adam, of Greer, SC; a nephew, Jeremy Jacobs, and his wife Samantha, of Charleston, SC.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home Sunday, April1, 2012, at 3:30pm with the Reverends James Rodgers and Tyus Butler officiating.  Burial will follow in the Poplar Spring Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
