VIC RAMPEY

NOVEMBER 5, 1915 – APRIL 28, 2012

Anderson, SC - Victor Wilson Rampey, age 96, passed away on April 28, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Garrison Rampey and the late Louisa Brown Rampey.  Mr. Rampey worked in Textiles for forty three years, retiring from Wamsutta Plant, Lowenstein Mills, in 1980.  Following his retirement, he was employed in Real Estate, Century 21 Action Properties and as bailiff in the Anderson County Court House in Anderson.

Mr. Rampey was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, president of Baptist Brotherhood, and chairman of various committees: Deacons, Building, Benevolence, and Personnel.  He was past president of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and treasurer and board member of the Haven of Rest Ministries. 

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Frances Hazel Crowe Rampey;  their children, Ellen Adair and her husband, John of Columbia, SC., Martha Rose Moody of Anderson, SC., and Reverend Dr. Victor W. Rampey Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Hendersonville, NC;  one brother, Andrew Rampey of Easley, SC; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers; Theodore, Frank, George, Roy Rampey; sisters, Lilly Mae Wyatt, Azilee Webb, Grace Kay, Edith Long and a son-in-law; John Rainey Moody.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, with the Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 pm in the Chapel, with Reverend Dr. Mack Tester, Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek and Reverend Ken Wright officiating.  Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. 

The family is at their respective homes.

BETTY D. SEAWRIGHT

September 8, 1938 – April 26, 2012

PENDLETON, SC - Betty Durham Seawright, age 73, of 322 Major Street, passed away on April 26, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Pendleton, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin Durham and the late Ruby Mae Haney Durham.  She had retired after many years from LaFrance Industries.  She was a member of East Clemson Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include a brother, Buddy Durham of Pendleton; and sisters, Catherine Smith and Rinia Lee Porter of Pendleton.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Truman Seawright, a brother, Paskel Jones Durham; and sisters, Viola Hart and Ella Wilbanks.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:00pm at The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Josh Hensley officiating.  Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family is at the home of her sister, Mrs. Rinia Lee Porter, 2312 Old Greenville Highway, Pendleton, SC 29670 and will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

TONY LOLLIS

January 31, 1957 – April 25, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Tony Raymond Lollis, age 55, a lifelong resident of Anderson County passed away on April 25, 2012, at his home.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of Raymond Walter Lollis and Rebecca Oakes Lollis.  Tony was a graduate of McDuffie High School and attended Tri County Technical College.  He was a professional insurance agent until an early disability.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his brothers, Tim Lollis, his wife Corley and their children Emory and Allen of Greenville, and Ted Lollis and his children Lindsey and Leslie of Anderson.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter “Doc” Lollis, Ruby B. Lollis, C.E. Oakes and Viola Oakes.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Charles Holland officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

MARVIN BOWEN

April 26, 1934 - April 24, 2012 

ANDERSON, SC - Walter Marvin Bowen, age 77, of 405 Bowen Street, passed away on April 24, 2012, at his residence. 

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late David O. Bowen, Sr. and the late Caturah Martin Bowen.  Mr. Bowen proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years, where he was aboard the U.S.S. Northampton.  He was the owner and operator of Bowen’s Upholstery where his career lasted over 50 years.  He enjoyed woodworking and was a friend to all who knew him. 

Survivors include daughters, Donna Compton and her husband Buddy of Anderson,  Anne Allred and her husband Cecil of Piedmont, Anita Hitt, and Marie Taylor and her husband John of Anderson; nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Forrester Bowen; a daughter, Becky Hamby; sisters, Annie Lois Carroll, and Martha Menees; and brothers, Charles, Ralph, Curtis, and David Bowen.

The Funeral Service to honor Mr. Bowen’s life will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 2:00pm with the Reverend John M. Daniel, Mr. Harry Osborne, Reverend Brent Lollis, and Reverend Cecil Allred officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

BERNARD “BERT” STEPHENS

March 14, 1932 – April 24, 2012 

ANDERSON, SC - Bert Stephens, age 80, of Anderson, husband of Jo Ann Breedlove Stephens, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at his home.

Born in Milton, WV, he was the son of the late Bernard Stephens and the late Mildred Shamlin Stephens.  He proudly served his country as a radio operator in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bert attended West Virginia University and received an electrical engineering degree. He was employed by BASF as an electrical engineer where he retired after 31 years of service. He is a member of North Anderson Baptist Church where he served his Lord in various capacities over a period of nearly 40 years.

In addition to his loving wife of 58 years he is survived by his three wonderful children, a son, Bernard “Chip” Stephens (Cheryl) of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Karan Johnson (Lewis) and Suzanne Chabek (Greg Rankin), all of Anderson.  He has eight precious grandchildren, Tyler, Brittany, and Mackenzie Stephens of Birmingham, AL, Nicholaus, Brandon, and Alexandra Chabek of Abilene, TX, Austin and McKayla Johnson of Anderson, SC.  He has one great-grandchild, Morrissey Chabek of Abilene, TX.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Marie Stephens Perraut.

The funeral service honoring and celebrating the life of Mr. Stephens will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 3:00pm at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  Prior to the funeral service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm until 2:30pm.

HELEN M. HENLEY

GREENVILLE, SC - Helen McWhorter Henley, 90, formerly of Atlanta, widow of M. E. "Gene" Henley, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. 

Born April 4, 1922 in Greensboro, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gussie McWhorter. She worked for Southern Bell Company and later worked for the family's waterproofing business as a bookkeeper.  Mrs. Henley was a member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur. 

She is survived by her son, Sam Reed Henley of Anderson, SC. 

A private memorial service will be held Tuesday.

Harold Chasteen  

August 27, 1923 - April 22, 2012 

ANDERSON, SC:Harold Chasteen, age 88, of 521 Eskew Circle, husband of Maggie Morrow Chasteen, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.  Born in Fairplay, he was the son of the late John Henry Chasteen and the late Beulah Howell Chasteen.    

Harold retired from textiles and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.  He was a faithful member of Trinity Springs Church of God. Harold loved his Lord and Saviour, country and most of all his family.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Maggie Morrow Chasteen; sons, Dennis Chasteen (Nancy), Danny Chasteen (Marian Smith) and Douglas Chasteen; sisters, Johnnie Sue Fant, Katherine Hendricks, Helen Lollis, Juanita Hester and Christine Turner; brothers, Marvin Chasteen and Noah Chasteen; grandchildren, Denny Chasteen and Nicki Chasteen Dickson (Billy); great-granddaughter, Cassie Dickson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by brothers; Rufus and James Chasteen; and sisters, Annie Mae Lollis and Mildred Jordan. 

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Springs Church of God officiated by Reverend Scott Vaughn, Reverend James Patterson and Reverend Boyd King.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Men’s Bible Class will serve as Honorary Escort.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and will be at the residence.

W. L. “Bill” Swinford

November 18, 1940 - April 22, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - W. L. “Bill” Swinford, age 71, of 2514 Lindale Road, husband of Brenda Taylor Swinford, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at AnMed Medical Health Center.  Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Odis Arvin Swinford and late Dana Getsinger Swinford.    

Bill was a sergeant with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and retired after 27 years of service.  He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Brenda Taylor Swinford; son, Joseph William Swinford of Tega Cay, SC; daughter, Dana Craft and her husband, Bruce of Anderson, SC; sister, Peggy Sheffield of Linden, TX; brothers, Arvin Swinford and his wife, Mary Jo of Anderson, SC and Royce Swinford of Stone Mountain, GA; and 5 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his twin brother, Robert Griffin Swinford.  

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Dr. Don Cox and Reverend Greg Martin.  Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. 

The family will be at the residence and receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM.

Charles “Buddy” McIlwain  

December 14, 1954 - April 20, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Charles W. “Buddy” McIlwain, Jr., age 57, of 406 Tiffany Drive, husband of Darlene Whitfield McIlwain, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at his residence.  “Buddy” was the son of Lorine Smith McIlwain and the Late Charles W. McIlwain, Sr.    

He was a graduate of Dixie High School, Erskine College and earned his Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Western Carolina University.  He was employed by Duke Energy for 32 years at the Oconee Nuclear Station.  While a student at Erskine College, he was a member of the Euphemian Literary Society and still enjoyed debating.     

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Darlene Whitfield McIlwain; mother, Lorine Smith McIlwain of Abbeville; son, Charles W. “Chase” McIlwain, III, and his wife, Jessica of Honea Path; daughter, Hannah McIlwain Bostic and her husband, Heath of Anderson; granddaughter, Amelia Grace McIlwain; sisters, Charlene Haynes and her husband, Calvin and Lynn McClain and her husband, Johnny, all of Abbeville; niece, Jennifer McClain Townsend and her husband, Cory; nephew Chris Haynes; and his faithful black Labrador, Remington.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Noon at Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, SC, officiated by Reverend Patrick Miller.  Serving as pallbearers are Robbie Rice, David Whitfield, Greg Rice, Chris Haynes, Gerald Rice, and Heath Whitfield.  

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and will be at the residence.

NORMAN KIRSCH, JR.

ANDERSON, SC - Norman Kirsch, Jr., 80, of 115 Sydney Court, husband of Sandra Beall Riddle Kirsch, passed away Monday, April 16, 2012 at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton, GA. 

Born November 30, 1931 in Bamberg, he was the son of the late Norman Kirsch, Sr. and the late Chloe Berry Kirsch. He was a 1952 graduate of the Citadel and a graduate of University of South Carolina's Pharmacy School. He was a retired Pharmacist and member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church. 

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Beall Riddle Kirsch of the home; 2 daughters, Kim Jones of Boiling Springs and Karen Ables of Westminster; son, Skip Kirsch of Boiling Springs and 6 grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held at 3pm Saturday at South End Cemetery in Bamberg.

ROXIE STEWART 

MAY 6, 1931 - APRIL 14, 2012

ANDERSON, SC – Roxie Margaret Rich Stewart, age 80, wife of James “Jim” H. Stewart, passed away April 14, 2012 at her home.

Born in Castalia, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter G. and Ethel Downey Rich.  She graduated from the Spring Hope High School in NC; she received her nursing degree from the Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA.  She worked for many years as a nurse for Westpoint Stevens Mills; she had previously worked at the Anderson Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Stewart of the home; daughter, Lisa Teasley Putnam of Greenville, NC; son, Michael Clark Teasley and his wife, Anna of Easley, SC; step-son, Jim Stewart of Anderson, SC; brother, Walter G. Rich Jr., of Warrenton, NC; sister, Ida Crutchfield of Sumter, SC; three grandchildren, Kyle Putnam, Blake Teasley, Stephanie Stewart.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by a son Richard Brian Teasley, sisters, Evelyn Strum and Elsie Mae Goggin.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11:30 in The Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Dr. Dennis R. Tedder officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

KAY D. FORREST

July 7, 1945 – April 11, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Evelyn Kay Darby Forrest, age 66, of Northlake Drive, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at her home.

Born in Lebanon Junction, KY, she is the daughter of the late W.H. “Jack” Darby and Gerry Shearer Darby.  Evelyn had worked at the Anderson Youth Association and the Anderson County Health Department.  

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas E. “Tommy” Forrest of the home; sisters, Sue Moss and her husband Sam of Raleigh, NC, Diane Evans and her husband Ed of Ridgeland, SC.  All of whom she loved dearly. 

The Memorial Service will be held in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Joyce Murphy and Reverend David Gladson officiating.  A time of family visitation will be immediately following the Memorial Service at The McDougald Family Center.
