SHERREL GLAZENER

SEPTEMBER 9, 1957 – AUGUST 18, 2012

STARR, SC - Sherrel Louise Glazener, age 54, of 136 Erwin Street, Starr, SC., wife of William M. Glazener, III passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC she was the daughter of the late James Aubrey Hall and Frances Louise Howell Hall. She was a graduate of Cresent High School.  Mrs. Glazener worked for Kids Stuff Academy.  She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple, where she attended Savannah Bible College.

In addition to her husband, she is survived a sister, Shelby Jean Crump and her husband, Al of Starr, SC; nephew, Mac Williams, of Starr, SC; and an uncle Johnny Howell, Sr. of Anderson, SC.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Gethsemane Baptist Church at 11:00 am, with Reverend Sammy Duncan and Reverend Charles Howell officiating.  Interment will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends on Monday, August 20,2012 at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

MARY DIANE CAIN FLOYD

PENDLETON - Mary Diane Cain Floyd, 56, of 219 Circle Drive, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born June 16, 1956 in Oconee County, she was the daughter of Barbara Ann Swift Cain of Sandy Springs and the late Harold Lewis "Flabby" Cain.

Survivors include her mother; daughter, Tracy Hill of Pendleton; son, Benjamin Hill of Central; grandson, Jaxson Hill of Central; sister, Cathy Blume of Anderson; brother, Jimmy Cain of Sandy Springs; and stepfather, Larry Ellison of Sandy Springs.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home of her brother, Jimmy Cain, 315 Circle Drive, Pendleton.

BONNIE ELLINGTON WILLIAMS

PENDLETON - Bonnie Ellington Williams, of Pendleton, widow of Paul Revis Williams, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Lelia Chapman Ellington. She was retired from School District #4 and was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Kathy Williams of the home, Scott Williams and wife, Cindy of Piedmont, and Ardeth Dunlap and husband, Joe of Piedmont. She was the beloved "Nana" to her three grandchildren, Holly Dunlap Betsill and husband, Bryan of Greenville, Erik Scott Williams of Piedmont, and Anna Dunlap Espich and husband, Casey of Rock Hill; one great granddaughter, Breleigh Anna Betsill; and one sister, Betty J. Barnette and husband, Aubrey of Anderson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles W. Ellington and M.C. Ellington, and five sisters, Ruth Kircus, Margaret Wells, Lola Yeargin, Letha Tompkins, and Letta Graham.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at New Silver Brook Cemetery conducted by Rev. Bill Hilley. The family is at the residence.

BARBARA NICHOLS-BROWN

ANDERSON - Barbara Ann Holder Nichols-Brown, of Anderson, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pulaski, TN, she was the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Beulah S. Holder. She was a retired teller supervisor at Wachovia Bank and was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

Survivors include a niece, nephews and two devoted caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Denzil L. Nichols and her second husband, Otis W. Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel conducted by Dr. Jack Couch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

KEN LOWERY

ANDERSON - Kenneth Sherill Lowery, 76, of Anderson, died Thursday, August 16, 2012.

Born October 12, 1935 in Pageland, he was the son of the late Thomas Frank and Roma Langley Lowery. He attended Clemson University and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Lowery was a retired FAA Flight Service Station manager. Following retirement, he founded and operated Southern Real Estate. He was a member of the Anderson County Airport Commission, the Anderson Touchdown Club, and was an IPTAY Representative. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he was Chairman of the Ushers and was a member of the Marshall Fant Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Dickson Lowery of the home; three sons, Dale Lowery, David Lowery and wife, Cindy, and Derek Lowery, all of Anderson; four grandchildren, Whitney, Alex, Tucker, and Matt Lowery; one brother, Tobe Lowery; and four sisters, Altha Lee Mangum, Maxine Baker, Jerry Williams, and Sue Neal.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dan Batson. A private committal will be held prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson. The family is at the residence.

ALICE M. SANDERS

ANDERSON- Alice Mackey Sanders, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 62, of 207 Surrey Lane, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.

Born in December 16, 1949 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Cleo Clark Mackey. She was a graduate of Palmetto High School and Limestone College. Alice was retired from Grainger in Fountain Inn.

Surviving are her husband W.C. "Bill" Sanders, Jr.; children: Blair McAlister and husband, Kevin of Liberty, Brooke Sanders of Asheville, Wendy Fletcher of Columbia, CPO Todd Fletcher and wife, Stephanie of Union City, TN; grandchildren, Bryce and Kiersten Fletcher of Union City, TN; sister, Jane Garrison and brother Jerry Mackey. She was preceded in death by sister, Betty Fricks and brother, Tommy Mackey.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

At the request of Mrs. Sanders, there will be no service.

GLORIA ANN DRIVER

March 8, 1946 – August 12, 2012

Gloria Ann Martin Driver, age 66, of 304 Turk Road, Townville, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at AnMed Health.  Born in Walhalla, SC, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Martin and Mrs. Sybil Cleland Martin.  

An honor graduate of Clemson University, Mrs. Driver was a registered nurse who was employed by Oconee Memorial Hospital for over 30 years.  She was a longtime member of Townville Baptist Church where she participated in leading Bible School and the Girls in Action program.  In addition to devoting time to family and her work, she enjoyed collecting lighthouses in her spare time.

Left to carry on the legacy of Mrs. Driver are her devoted husband, William “Bill” Driver of Townville to whom she was married for 41 years; 2 daughters, Melissa Ann “Missy” Driver and Laura Driver Dunn, both of Townville; her mother, Sybil Cleland Martin of Seneca; a brother, Eddie Martin and his wife, Lynn, of Seneca; a nephew, Dan Hartley and his wife, Allison of Columbia; a niece, Lindsay Graham and her husband Brian of Seneca; and 4 grandchildren, William Tyler Swaney, Devin Cole Swaney, Chyanne Dunn, and Cierra Dunn.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Driver was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Gracie Elaine Harkins, and a nephew, Brian T. Martin.

Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at 1 PM, with Rev. David Blizzard officiating.  Interment will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 6 PM until 8 PM.  

Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Driver to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

OPAL FINLEY

ANDERSON - Opal Evelyn Speares Finley, 81, widow of James Roy Finley, formerly of McKinley Drive, died on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at NHC of Anderson.

She was born on June 5, 1931 in Anderson and worked at Appleton Mill for many years. Later she worked at Nevitt Forest Elementary School in the cafeteria.

She is survived by a son Colonel "Ronnie" Finley and his wife, Patti Bolt Finley; daughter, Sheila Finley Hilton and her husband, William “Billy” Hilton all of Anderson; three grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Hope Hilton of Greenville, William James “B.J.” Hilton of Anderson and Chelsea Elizabeth Finley of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister, Betty Jean Burdette and a brother, Rob Speares both of Anderson. She also counted as family her close friends, Frankie and Aubrey Fowler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Mae and Homer Speares; two sisters, Sybil Gunnin and Ruby Craft; two brothers, James and Clifton Speares and a granddaughter, Sara Riley.

Opal was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and most recently Concord Baptist Church. She loved shopping, walking, eating out (especially dessert) and Clemson Football. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and loved to brag to everyone, even total strangers.

Funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Rev. Benny Speares officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11am prior to the service at the Northeast Chapel on Hwy 81.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, Sheila Hilton, 1300 Hanover Road.

FRANK HAMMOND

WILLIAMSTON - John Frank Hammond, 87, husband of the late Bobbie Sue Reid Hammond, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born October 9, 1924, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Cevera W. and Nora Robinson Hammond. He was a WWII veteran and served on U.S. Navy battleships USS Uhlmann and USS New Jersey.   After retiring from Owens-Corning Fiberglass, Frank worked at AnMed Health in security and Carolina Auto Auction. He was a member of Young Memorial A.R.P. Church where he served faithfully as Head Usher for many years.  Frank loved family, farming and fishing.

Surviving are his daughter, Rebekah Hammond of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Steve Hammond and his wife, Sharlene of Denver, NC and Alan R. Hammond and his wife, Angie of Williamston; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by a twin brother at birth and his older brother, James W. Hammond.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Dr. L. Thomas Richie officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

The family will be at the home at 517 Mountain View Road, Williamston.

Pamela Jane Vanderveer

May 3, 1959 – August 8, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Pamela Jane Richey Vanderveer, age 53, of 138 Swain Street, Anderson, passed away on August 8, 2012 at her residence.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Jane Pruitt Clark of Anderson and the late Preston David Richey.  She attended Branch Baptist Church in Anderson.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Nicole Mitchell and her husband Steve of Anderson and Melissa Reed and her husband Gene of Anderson; three brothers, Eddie Clark, Russell Clark and Preston Richey, all of Anderson; and six grandchildren.

The Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10 am at Branch Baptist Church with Reverend Russell Clark officiating.  The family will gather for a time of visitation after the service.

MARY ELIZABETH POWELL

SEPTEMBER 21, 1937- AUGUST 5, 2012

ANDERSON, SC  - Mary Elizabeth Powell, age 74, wife of the late Reverend Charles Leonard Powell, of 235 Thomason Circle, went home to be with her loving Savior, on Sunday, August 05, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late James E. Rider and Sarah Ollie Sanders Rider.  Mrs. Powell was the Co-Founder of Jesus Deliverance Tabernacle, and currently she was a member and an Elder of New Life Praise & Worship.  

She is survived by a son, Terry Paul Powell of Florida; daughters, Cindy Powell Gilliam and her husband, Darryl of Anderson, Loretta Mitchell of Anderson, Debra Andrea Powell of Spartanburg, and Lynn Powell of Anderson; six grandchildren and one grandson reared in the home, Charles David Richardson; fifteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by a son, Charlie W. Chasteen Jr.; daughters, Debra E. Stafford and Connie Powell; one brother, Jessie W. Sanders.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Pastor Neal Hendrix, Reverend Bill McCall and Reverend Arthur Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6, 2012 at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and will be at the home on 235 Thomason Circle, Anderson, SC, 29626.
