DR. MARION RAY GILLESPIE

April 6, 1931 – November 21, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Dr. Marion Ray Gillespie, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.

Further arrangements will be announced by The McDougald Funeral Home.

FLOYD C. MAINOUS

March 9, 1942 – November 19, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Floyd Clayton Mainous, age 70, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, at his residence.

Born in Booneville, KY, he was the son of the late William Conely Mainous and the late Cora Heard Mainous.  He graduated from the Owlsley County High School in KY and then attended electronic school in Atlanta, GA.  He  retired from the Meritta Bread and Flowers Bakery where he was a route manager.  He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he was the Men’s Club President and was an United Methodist Lay Speaker. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Owen Mainous of the home; a son, Bill Mainous of Anderson, SC; and a brother, Billy Mainous of Hamilton, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Reverend Edward Mainous and Don Mainous.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, November 23, 2012, from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm. The funeral service will be held in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm with Reverend Barry Cannon officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 233 New Hope Road, Anderson, SC, 29626.

RICHARD S. “DICK” FITZPATRICK  

November 18, 1939 – November 20, 2012 

Richard S. “Dick” Fitzpatrick, age 73, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Ila, GA, he was the son of the late Walter Jackson Fitzpatrick and the late Mary Faith Pettit Fitzpatrick.  Dick graduated from Boys High School.  He joined the U.S. Air Force, spending most of his 4 years in Northern Japan and at Andrews Air Force Base.  He spent several years in the National Guard.  Dick retired from the Glidden Company after 31 years. But, he continued to work for United Marketing Group. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Regenia Williams Fitzpatrick, of the home; two children, William Fitzpatrick, his wife Kris and their children Jessica and Hannah of Anderson and Liz Hansard, her husband Jeff and their children, Kristina, Jacob, MacKensie and Neve, of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Larry Fitzpatrick and his wife Margie and their children, Scott and Mark of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by four adopted siblings, Brenda, Donna, Ricky and Tony. 

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.  The Memorial service will follow in the Chapel of the funeral home at 1:30 pm with Dr. Don Cox officiating. Mr. Fitzpatrick will have a private family interment following the memorial service.

WILLIAM “SHORTY” SIMMONS, JR.  

ANDERSON – William “Shorty” Jordan Simmons, Jr., 80, of 3212 Howland Drive, husband of Betty L. Simmons, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born February 11, 1932 in LaFrance, he was the son of the late William J. Simmons, Sr. and the late Irene Snelgrove Simmons. He was a Veteran in the U.S. Navy and member of Hiram Masonic Lodge #68 A.F.M. He later retired from Wometco Vending and was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church.  

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Betty Loftis Simmons of the home; daughter, Kristi Simmons of Anderson; 2 sons, William Simmons, III of Greenwood and Mark Simmons of Anderson; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Smith.

Graveside service will be held at 2pm Wednesday at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Rev. James Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. The family is at the home.

WILLIAM “SHORTY” SIMMONS, JR.

PATRICIA RIDGEWAY MCDANIEL  

September 5, 1934 – November 18, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Patricia Ridgeway McDaniel, age 78, of Anderson, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Greenville County, SC, she was the daughter of the late J.Q. Ridgeway and the late Ruby Jeanes Ridgeway.  She graduated from Clemson University with a BA Degree.  Patricia was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Anderson. 

She is survived by her loving husband, Joe C. McDaniel, of the home; sons, Joseph Andrew McDaniel and his wife Maili of Kelso, WA and James Marshall McDaniel of Pelzer, SC; a daughter, Eva McDaniel Addison and her husband Dale of Anderson, SC; two brothers, George Ridgeway and his wife Darlene of Williamston, SC and Allen Lewis Ridgeway of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Jonnie Elgin and her husband Bill of Honea Path, SC and Jane Jordan and her husband Donnie of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

The Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Bishop Darin Park officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

GEORGE M. REED

ANDERSON - George Milton Reed, 98, of Anderson, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at NHC of Anderson.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Garland McDavid and Addie Brown Reed. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II with 5 years active duty and was retired from the U.S. Army National Guard  as a Command Sergeant Major ( CSM) with 31 years service. He attended Anderson College and was a farmer. Mr. Reed was a member and Past President of Anderson Golden K and was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. 

Survivors include his wife, Katharine W. Reed; son, George M. “Sonny” Reed and wife Susan of Anderson; five grandchildren, Dr. Alison Reed of Hickory, NC, Walker Reed and wife, Kacie of Greenville, Benjamin Reed and wife, Charity of Anderson, Reed Richardson and husband, Mark of Atlanta, and Anna Franklin of Charlotte; two great grandchildren, Mac and Kate Richardson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Brown, a sister, Kate R. Shirley, and three brothers, Lucius Reed, Col. Henry M. Reed, and Broadus F. Reed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, at Long Branch Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wayne Watson. Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday at Long Branch Baptist Church fellowship hall. The family is at the home of his son, George M. “Sonny” Reed, Jr.

ANNETTE POWELL DAVIS

September 5, 1943 – November 14, 2012

WILLIAMSTON, SC - Dorothy Annette Powell Davis, age 69, passed away on November 14, 2012, at Regency Hospital in Greenville, SC.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late J.C. Brock, Sr. and the late Maggie Richey Brock.  She was the former owner of A & A Small Engine Repair and later worked at White Jones Hardware.

She is survived by her son, Lucky Powell and his wife, Amber of Piedmont, SC; brothers, James and John Brock; sisters, Mildred Barnes and Shelby Wilson; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Madison Powell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin W. Powell and her second husband, Robert Davis; four brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Reverend Alan Rhodes and Reverend Ace Allen officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at their respective homes.

JACKIE BURGESS

ANDERSON - Jacquelyn "Jackie" Stanley Burgess, of Anderson, wife of Bill Burgess, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at AnMed Health Medical Center. 

Born in Catawba, SC and raised in Rockingham, NC, she was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Madge Cornwell Stanley. She worked for the Anderson Clerk of Court's office for 10 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. 

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, William R. "Bill" Burgess, Jr. of the home; son, Bill Burgess, III and his wife, Carol of Spartanburg; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren and a sister, Doris McWhorter of Aberdeen, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 N. Hwy 81. The funeral service will be held at 3pm at Sullivan-King Mortuary with Dr. Johnny McKinney and Rev. Elwood Orr officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

KERRY L. MORTON SR.

December 5, 1950 – November 13, 2012

ANDERSON, SC - Kerry Lynn Morton, Sr., age 61, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late David Oscar Morton and the late Dorothy Bryant Morton.  He graduated from Rockingham, NC High School and from Limestone College.  He retired from BASF after 37 years of service.  He was a Youth Director in several churches and was a Deacon at Middleton Road Baptist Church.  He was most currently a member of Little River Baptist Church in Honea Path.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Gail Bouldin Morton of the home; sons, Kerry L. Morton, Jr., of Anderson, SC and Brian Morton and his wife Amanda of Iva, SC; two brothers, Ted Morton of Anderson, SC and Gregg Morton, Sr. of London, England; and three grandchildren, Austin Tyler Morton, Andrew Morton and Jon Lucas Morton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Joseph Bailey Morton.

The Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 11:00 am at Little River Baptist Church Cemetery in Honea Path, SC, with Reverend Garrett Hart officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 16, 2012, at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
