REV. JAMES W. TERRY, JR.

Aug. 22, 1919 – Sept. 5, 2009
INMAN, SC - Reverend James Walter Terry, Jr., age 90, husband of the late Inez Harris Terry, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg. Born in Iva, SC on August 22, 1919, he was a son of the late James Walter Terry, Sr., and Bessie Manning Terry. He was a United States Army World War II veteran and entered the ministry in 1947.  He was an ordained Bishop of the Church of God and served 18 churches in South Carolina and one in New Mexico.  He was superintendent and served on the board for the Church of God Home for Children.  He also served on the State Evangelism and State Ministerial  Boards. Rev. Terry was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Greer.
 
Survivors include his daughter, Emily Terry Hatchell and her husband, Franklin Hatchell, Sr., of Campobello, son, James Edwin Terry and his wife, Murphy of Norman, OK; four grandchildren, Angela Huerta, F. Lanier Hatchell, Jr., Chris Patterson and Rev. James Hatchell; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Darling of San Bruno, CA and half-brother, J. C. Terry of Starr.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Ludie Terry; brothers, Waymon, Jake and Charles Terry; sisters Callie Mae Hicks and Marie Kilgore Smith; half-brothers, Floyd and Melvin Terry; half-sisters, Edna Carey, Caro Reynolds, Nettie Terry and Louise Terry and a granddaughter, Sherry Ann Terry. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Dr. Leon Parker, Rev. James Shealy and Rev. Bobby Johnson.  Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Reverend Terry’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

CARL B. DUNCAN, JR.

OCTOBER 11, 1924 – SEPTEMBER 5, 2009
HARTWELL, GA – Carl Benjamin Duncan, Jr., age 84, resident of Hartwell Health Care Center passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009. Born in Hartwell, GA, on October 11, 1924, he was a son of the late Carl B. Duncan, Sr., and Vera Cleveland Duncan.  He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II.  Mr. Duncan retired from Flowers Bakery Company and was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.
 
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gail McLane Duncan; son: Frank Duncan and wife, Julie of Bailey, NC; daughters: Angela Osborne and husband, Eddie of Anderson, Carla Polson and husband, Dereck of Greer, Dori Marcovechio and husband, Tony of Bluffton, and Gwen Elmore and husband, Charles of Virginia Beach; grandchildren: Heather, Josh, Cory, Jordan, Ben, Zachary, Jared, and Madeline; and sisters: Joyce Thomas and Effie Fernalin.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Sam Duncan.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. ANN BAKER

                                                Sept. 14, 1952 – Sept. 5, 2009
STARR, SC -Mary Ann Dennis Baker, age 56, of 116 Green Valley Road, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Newberry, SC on September 14, 1952, Ann was the daughter of the late Henry Ross Dennis and Edith Constance Taylor Dennis.  She was a 1970 graduate of T. L. Hanna High School and a graduate of Forrest College.  She was an administrative assistant at Anderson County Housing Authority and had also worked for Hampshire Designers for many years.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
 
Survivors include her daughters, Sonya Baker and Kristi B. Hughes and her husband, Grady of Starr; brothers, Richard Dennis and his wife, Donna and John Dennis of Anderson; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Hughes; niece, Lindsay Oliver and great-nephew, Devon Dennis. he Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Chaplain Don Owens.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
 
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home of her brother, Richard Dennis, 310 Keithwood Drive, Anderson.Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E. CALVIN L. MARTIN

FEBRUARY 20, 1925 – SEPTEMBER 5, 2009
 
BELTON, SC – Calvin Leon Martin, age 84, resident of Belton, SC, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Belton, SC, on February 20, 1925, he was a son of the late William Samuel Martin and Auzlee Osley Martin.  He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II.  Mr. Martin retired from General Electric in Greenville and was a member of the Belton Church of God.
 
Survivors include his children: Carol M. Church and husband, Randy of Belton, Donnie Martin and wife, Cleo of Columbia, Eddy D. Martin of Belton, and Cheryll Martin of Burke, VA.   Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Hopkins Martin; and two brothers, Herman Hugh Martin and W.S. Martin, Jr.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 2 pm until 3:30 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.  The Funeral Service will follow at 4 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  Dr. J. Charles Smith will conduct the service.  Following the service, the Campbell Patriot Honor Guard will provide Military Honors. Annie Mae Clinkscales

Anderson – Annie Mae Clinkscales, 90, passed away on September 3, 2009.  She is survived by her daughters, Lenora C. Evans, Verrina C. Jones, and Willie Mae Clinkscales; sister, Minnie Lou S. Agnew; six grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Clinkscales; parents, Rev. J.H. and Minnie Simmons Scott; sisters, Eunice S. Martin, Martha Jane S. Latimer, Verrina S. Jenkins, and Amanda S. Anderson; brothers, Walter Lee, Ozia, Roy, Jay Willie, and Bennie Scott.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, September 8 at Welfare Baptist Church in Belton.  The body will be placed in state at 1:30 PM.  The interment will follow in the church cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM.  The family is at 102 Sylvester Dr.  The funeral home will be open from noon until 8:00 PM on Labor Day.

Mary Thompson Neely

Belton – Mary Thompson Neely, 83, of 3837 Belhaven Road Ext., passed away on September 2, 2009.  She is survived by four grandchildren, eleven greatgrandchildren, and eleven great greatgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Neely; parents, Sally Mae Adger and Eugene Archie; and two sons, Rubin and Milton Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.  The interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Loretta Glenn

Chicago - Loretta Glenn was born on April 21, 1947 in Anderson, SC to James and Laura Hatten.  She leaves to cherish, her husband, Walter; three children, Rory, James, and Laura; siblings, Selma Ann Miller, Lorene Hatten, Virginia (Lewis) Williford, James (Mary Ann) Hatten; and five grandchildren.  Services were held on Friday in Chicago.  Sorrowfully submitted by Marcus D. Delbert Brown “Bud” Pendleton

ANDERSON – Delbert Brown “Bud” Pendleton, 82, of 124 Concord Circle, formerly of Erie, PA, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born December 16, 1926 in Soldier, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Zena Yohe Pendleton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Phillipines. Mr. Pendleton was the retired owner of Pendleton Auto Sales for over 50 years in Erie, PA. He was a member of Tyrian Commonwealth Masonic Lodge, Erie, PA; Scottish Rites and American Legion in Erie, PA; and was a former member of the Zem Zem Shrine of Erie, PA. He attended Concord Baptist Church in Anderson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Erma Jean Wayland Pendleton of the home; daughter, Beverly Weese and husband, Jerry of Fair Play; two grandchildren, Michelle Cox and husband, Richie of Fair Play, and Paul Maleski and wife, Teresa of Anderson; three great grandchildren, Brayden Cox, Keylee Maleski, and Cole Cox; four sisters, Alice Marchioni of Dubois, PA, Margaret Walker and husband, Clair of Reynoldsville, PA, Nancy Walker and husband, Marlin of Sykesville, PA, and Rhoda Walker and husband, Ben of Reynoldsville, PA; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donnie Pendleton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson, conducted by Pastor Leon Lusk. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

REVEREND GUY OVERCASH

DECEMBER 15, 1929 – SEPTEMBER 2, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC – Reverend Guy Overcash, age 79, husband of the late Jo Ann Williams Overcash, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson, SC, on December 15, 1929, he was a retired Baptist Minister having served Anderson County for fifty years.  During his ministry, he served Triangle Baptist Church in Belton for four years, LaFrance First Baptist Church in LaFrance for thirty-six years, and ten years of serving various congregations as an Interim Minister.  He was a graduate of Anderson Boys’ High School and was further educated by receiving an A.A. degree from Anderson College, a B.A. and M.D. from Furman University, an M.O.B. from the Seminary of Erskine College, and was a graduate for the Chandler Theological Seminary. 
 
Reverend Overcash was a lifetime member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge, was a Shriner, and member of the Woodman of the World.  In addition, he served as a Chaplain on a Billy Graham Crusade as well as serving on the Emory University Board of Chaplains.  He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
 
He is survived by his daughters: Mary Anne Parnell and husband, Randy Parnell of Belton, and Gladys Overcash of Laurens; and two grandchildren: Lindsey Anne Parnell of Anderson and James F. Hackett of Anderson. In addition to his wife; his mother, Icibelle Overcash Evans; a daughter, Diane Roberts; and a grandson, Guy A. Hackett, preceded him in death.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend R.L. “Bob” Marcaurelle.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Randy & Mary Ann Parnell, 1331 Blue Ridge Avenue, Belton, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm on Saturday, prior to the service. Charlie Odell Cowan

Belton S.C. - Charlie Odell Cowan age 70 ,of 112 Shirley St., Belton, died Tuesday at the Hospice of the Upstate.  He was born in Anderson County and was the son of the late Leroy Cowan Sr., and Gertrude Bigby Cowan. Survivors include two daughters Merdell and Sandra Cowan. Five sons Donald, Jesse, Johnny, Wallace Cowan, and a step son Rick Hudgins. Six sisters Lelia Mae Halger, Willie L Jackson, Reba T. Cox, Alice Clement, and Glenda Faye Dubose. Five brothers Rev. William L. Cowan, Roy Cowan Jr., and Jimmy Dubose. 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Belton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7:00-7:30 P.M. at the Holloway’s Funeral Home of Belton. The family is at the home. Holloway’s Funeral Home Inc. is serving the Cowan Family.

MARK WILLIAMS

July 17, 1969 – September 2, 2009
 
FAIR PLAY, SC - Mark Douglas Williams, age 40, husband of Shirley “Lou Ann” Allred Williams of 107 Bass Drive, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Born in Xenia, Ohio on July 17, 1969, Mark was a son of Kenneth and Linda Williams.  He was a 1987 graduate of Westside High School and received an Associates Degree from Tri-County Technical College. He was employed with the family owned business, the Carolina Mold & Tool Company. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter.  He was a guitarist and enjoyed writing his own songs.  He was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and father.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by sons, Luke and Matthew Williams of the home; brothers, Jeffrey Williams of Townville and Michael Williams of Anderson; mother-in-law and step father-in-law, Carolyn Hammett Todd and Randall Todd; father-in-law, Jerry L. Allred, Sr.; grandparents, Geneva Williams of Townville and Rollin Prickett of Xenia, Ohio; nieces, Christian Williams, Kyndall Williams and Kamryn Williams and a nephew, Jackson Williams.
 
He was predeceased by grandfather, Woodrow Williams and grandmother, Gloria Prickett. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Pope Drive Baptist Church officiated by the Reverends Mack Tester and Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, September 5, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Mr. Williams will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm on Sunday. BILL BOWMAN

APRIL 17, 1936 – SEPTEMBER 2, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC – Billy Ray Bowman, age 73, of 3018 Hazel Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Pickens County on April 17, 1936, he was a son of the late Walter Carmack Bowman and Ethel Pauline Hodges Bowman.  He retired from Mayfair Mills in Starr and had formerly attended Centerville Church of God.  Mr. Bowman’s greatest passion was caring for his beloved bulldog, “Buster”.
 
Survivors include his wife, Mary “Faye” Jones Bowman of the home; daughters: Phyllis Bowman McClure and husband, Billy of Anderson, and Susan Bowman Brown and husband, Duane of Iva; and a son, Timothy Ray Bowman and wife, Deborah of Iva; brother, James Norman Bowman of Anderson; sister, Linda Parham of Anderson; aunt, Edith Leonard of Easley; and sisters-in-law: Ruby McCurley, Dot Kirby, and Betty Anderson and husband, James, and Sue Bowman.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents, a son, Tony Joe Bowman, and a brother, Walter Thomas Bowman, predeceased him. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Paul Young and the Reverend Ronnie Powell.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday, September 4, 2009. The family is at the home, 3018 Hazel Avenue.
