RON CHAPMAN

ANDERSON – Ronald Ray Chapman, 67, of Anderson, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born October 11, 1942 in Ashland, KY, he was the son of the late Otis Guy and Bertha B. Chapman. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired employee of General Motors in Pontiac, MI. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Y. Chapman; children, Ron Chapman, Jr. of  Midland, MI, Phil Chapman and wife, Georgia of Chicago, IL, Angela McCauley and husband, Rich of  Anderson, SC, Therese’ Stevens and husband, Ted of Glasgow, MO, and Christine Chapman of  Anderson, SC; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and three sisters, Rosalie Workman and husband, Harold of Ashland, KY, Phyllis Dolan and husband, Chuck, and Carol Stewart, all of Catlettsburg, KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Roger Jones and Gary Miller.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at Church of Christ, 1136 Brown Road, Anderson, SC conducted by Minister Gavin Coriell.

Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

SEPTEMBER 7, 1938 – OCTOBER 28, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC – Paul William Heath, age 71, of 103 Sydney Court, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at National Health Care of Anderson.
 
Born in Springfield, OH, on September 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Ernest Virgil Heath and Margie Juanita Hughes Heath.  Mr. Heath retired as Maintenance Supervisor having been employed with Ohio Steel Tube Company and later Foundry and Steel in Anderson.  He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
 
Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Genny C.  Heath; his mother, Margie Juanita Heath of Vallejo, CA; his children: Gary E. Bealer and wife, Nancy of Nashville, TN, Chester C. “Tim” Courtright and wife, Barbara of Anderson, SC, Tonya Sue Robinson and husband, Russell of Williamston, SC, and Lori Kay Gale and husband, Steven of Anderson, SC; sisters, Sharon L. Fine and husband, Jon and Nita I. Smith, both of Vallejo, CA, Velma Jo Hubbard of Springfield, OH, and Beth Elaine Fox of Vallejo, CA.   Also surviving are twelve grandchildren. In addition to his father, Mr. Heath was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Heath; and a grandson, Eddie Bealer.
 
The Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, October 31, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Mark Dickson. Interment will follow in the Old Stone Church Cemetery.

PHYLLIS DRUMHILLER

ANDERSON, SC – Phyllis Marie Smith Drumhiller, 79, of Anderson, South Carolina, wife of Cecil Drumhiller, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born July 30, 1930 in Hutchinson, KS, where she lived for 62 years.  She was the daughter of the late Fred G. and Minnie Mary Krueger Smith. She was licensed to sell financial securities and sold many different types of investment options over the years. After retiring here to Anderson, she worked as a sales associate at Belk’s. When Phyllis wasn’t working, she enjoyed the art of oil and acrylic painting and sold several of her paintings. She loved teaching others her art.  In addition, she was a life-long Sunday School teacher and member of Anderson Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Cecil Earnest Drumhiller of Anderson, SC; 2 sons, E.S. (Hank) Drumhiller of Roswell, GA and Harold Lee Drumhiller of Crossville, TN; daughter, Linda Kay Chapman of Mill Creek, WA and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, John and Herschel Smith and 3 sisters, Maxine Aupperle, Irene Bridges and Twila Rogers.

Memorial services will be held at 1 PM this Saturday at Anderson Church of Christ with Minister Gavin Coriell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The family is at the Anderson home.

DANIEL BYRNES

September 29, 1945 – October 26, 2009
 
BELTON, SC - Daniel Nelson Byrnes, age 64, husband of Robin Cornelia Person Byrnes of 721 Autumn Lane, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
 
Born in Moorestown, NJ, he was a son of the late Joseph Patrick Byrnes and Anna Elizabeth Brown Byrnes.  He graduated in 1963 in Moorestown, NJ and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was the co-owner of Burns “n” Allen Auto Repair Shop in Monterey, California where he lived for several years. Upon retiring in 2004, he moved to the Anderson, SC area.  He was a member of High Praises Church of God.
 
Survivors include his wife, of the home; sons, Stephen and John Byrnes of the home; daughter, Sarah Byrnes of Spartanburg; brothers, Joseph Byrnes of Texas and James Byrnes of Virginia.
 
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 3:00 pm at High Praises Church of God officiated by the Reverend Chris Sustar. The family will receive friends immediately follow the service. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to High Praises Church of God, 4506 Midway Road, Williamston, SC 29697.

OPHELIA DANIEL WATERS

April 26, 1922-October 26, 2009
 
Anderson- Mrs. Ophelia Daniel Waters, age 87, widow of the late Ernest Ralph Waters, went to her heavenly home on October 26, 2009.
 
Born April 26, 1922 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late John M. Daniel and Minnie Fuller Daniel.  She was Ralph’s wife for 68 years, the mother of three children, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.
 
She is survived by her son, Lane Waters (Lisa) of Mebane, NC; daughters, Lynne Queen and Cindy Black, both of Anderson, SC; seven grandchildren, Scott (Sherry) Queen and Mark Queen, Stephanie McLeskey (her caregiver) and husband Mike, Shana Culbertson, Tasha Culbertson, who preceded her in death, Cathlin (Aaron) Gramza and Michael Waters; ten great-grandchildren, Kollette (Jason) Rhodes, Tyler, Taylor, Brooke Culbertson, Megan Pitman, Blake, Brantly, Ashley, and Brittany Queen, Lincoln Gramza and a sister, Bonnie Branyon of Greenville.
 
A private family graveside service was held on October 28, 2009 officiated by her great-nephew, Reverend Ronnie Blackwell and life-long friend, Reverend James Kelly. The McDougald Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

HENRY WILSON

July 12, 1916 – October 27, 2009
 
ANDERSON, SC - James Henry Wilson, age 93, husband of the late Ethel Gilliam Wilson, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his residence. Born in Anderson, SC on July 12, 1916, he was the son of the late William “Jim” Wilson and Mary Lou Stowe Wilson.  Mr. Wilson was a United States Air Force veteran having served in World War II as a medic.  He retired from Equinox Mill with 50 years of service and was a member of the Ruff Masonic Lodge #240.  He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.
 
Survivors include his daughter, Doris Burdette and her husband, Sloan of Anderson; three grandchildren, Roger Dale Burdette and his wife, Sandra, Michael Burdette and his wife Karen and James Burdette and his wife Amy; six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jarrett, Dekota, Maeghan, Sloan and Zack; a special friend, Mary Scott and one niece. A sister, Daisy W. Cooper predeceased him.
 
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Sam Duncan.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm The family will be at their respective homes.

ANDERSON, SC – Kyle Eric Thompson, age 39, of 113 Sanders Street, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009. Born in Anderson, SC, on April 24, 1970, he was a former employee of Jimmy L. Davis Construction Company.
 
Survivors include his wife, Melanie Whitten Thompson; five children: Megan Cox, Zachary Beasley, Jacob Beasley, and Michaela Beasley; and three sisters: Denise Saylors Tant, Kim Saylors Mitchell, and Rhonda D. Caldwell.
 
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Furman & Margaret Thompson and his biological parents, Ronald Earl Saylors and Linda Ann Fuller Saylors.
 
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2009, will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Kiki Tant.

MARTHA A. MAHAFFEY

ANDERSON – Martha Alice Mahaffey, 90, of Anderson, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Brookside Living Center. Born December 6, 1918 in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late John Allen and Alice Gentry Mahaffey. She was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn M. Welborn of Pendleton; and a brother, Joe Mahaffey of Anderson. A brother, John Allen Mahaffey, Jr., and two sisters, Roberta Branyon and Esther Pettigrew, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Jack Anderson. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622.
