Anderson, SC - Ira P. Bolt, Jr., 92, husband of the late Lucia Elizabeth King Bolt, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at his residence.
Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Ira P. and Neta McClure Bolt. Buck attended Boys High School and Clemson University. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radioman 2/C in the American and European Theatres. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation with the Bronze Star. He was a former member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Buck had an illustrious career with Federal Highway Administration for 30 years, retiring as a resident engineer on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Buck was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for a number of years. He was a member and past president of the Anderson Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Award Recipient and was also a member of Hiram Lodge #68 A.F.M., where he was a Life Master Mason and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of Midway Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and church treasurer over the years.
Survivors include one son, Ira Steven “Steve” Bolt of Anderson; one daughter, Luanne Bolt Thayer of Greenville; two grandchildren, Jason Thayer and Lindsey Thayer; one great grandchild, Christian Thayer. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Goode, Frances McLeod, Winona Kerchmar, Florence Thompson, and Bettie Parnell; and a brother, Wilson Bolt.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 26, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. James M. Rice. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Family members are at their respective homes.
