Charles Moses Jowers, CLU, aged 79, of Anderson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jane Fleming Jowers, as well as his son, Dr. Dennis W. Jowers, and his wife Judy of Tacoma, Washington. After a private burial, the funeral will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Anderson, SC at 2 p.m. Saturday.

A faithful member of St. John’s and a member of Optimists International for 50 years, Mr. Jowers participated extensively in civic affairs, holding office in the Republican Party of Greenville County, Richland County, and Anderson County. During his tenure as chairman of the Anderson County Republican Party (1980–1984), the first Republicans to serve in countywide office in Anderson since Reconstruction were elected. He also oversaw Anderson’s first Republican primary.He served as President of the Whitehall Elementary School PTA and as a member of the PTA’s district board.

A veteran, Mr. Jowers served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He also belonged to Hiram Lodge no. 68. Having graduated from South Georgia College and studied at Mercer University, he worked in the insurance industry for forty years. After serving in a managerial capacity with Prudential Insurance in Greenville, Columbia, and Anderson, he founded and maintained his own business, Employee Benefit Planners, Inc., from 1979 until 2003.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250 or St. John’s United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
