Anderson, SC - Reba Sue Bridges Gambrell, 86, widow of James Robert Gambrell, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.
Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Furman Carlton and Leona Allen Bridges. She had several jobs: at LaFrance Industries in the Industrial Engineering Department; at Dow as a chemist assistant; at J.C. Penney as a retail associate; and at AnMed Hospital as a ward secretary. Most importantly she served the Lord as a wife and mother to her family, Cub Scout leader, an active church member, and friend to all in her community. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and formerly attended Zion United Methodist Church and Asbury Baptist Church.
Through the love of Christ, she loved children and all people, regardless of their color or socio-economic status. She was a forgiving woman who prayed constantly for her family, friends and neighbors. She loved to read the Bible and write about what she read. She judged no one. She recognized the saving grace of Jesus Christ and thanked him continuously until her last breath. In her own words she wrote: “Praise the Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you. Thank you. We love you God. We love you Lord Jesus. Thank you. Thank you for all the things you have done and for the things that you are going to do. How wonderful it is to serve you!”
Survivors include two sons, J. Chester Gambrell of Florence and R. David Gambrell and wife, Jackie of Powdersville; two grandchildren, Aaron and Lydia Gambrell; two sisters, Barbara Hardy and Frances McCurley of Anderson; and a brother, W. Carlton Bridges and wife, Donna of Anderson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Coy and Harold Bridges.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Larry Ferris. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. The family will be at the home of a sister, Barbara Hardy, 5213 Highway 187, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries, p.O. Box 466, Anderson, SC 29622.
