Anderson, SC - David Lee Coffee, 83, husband of Mary Jane Moon Coffee, died Sunday, June 21, 2015.
Born October 21, 1931 in Anderson, he was the son of the late Otis Lee and Annie Lee Vassar Coffee. He was retired from the U.S. Army and later retired as a Lieutenant at the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department as a shift commander. He was the former owner of Anderson Crime Watch Security and The Snack Shop. A street was named in his honor near the Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Coffee of the home; two daughters, Tina Chasteen Phinney and husband, Jim of Westminster and Sheila Sutton of North Carolina; four sons, Terry Wayne Chasteen and wife, Marie of Anderson, David Lynn Coffee, Johnny Dale Coffee and Stephen Coffee, all of North Carolina; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; and four sisters, Lillie Marett, Ruby Nell Smith and Rachel Warren of Anderson and Claudia Willis of Iva.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Fred Richard “Ricky” Chasteen, daughter, Tonya Tamara Chasteen, and a sister, Earline Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Iva First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jerry Gray and Rev. Wendell Rhodes. Burial, with full military honors, will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
