Pendleton, SC - Melvin Eugene Barnette, 81, husband of Frances Copeland Barnette, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Emory University Hospital.

Born April 9, 1933 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late H. Buford and Edna Hicks Barnette. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a graduate of Clemson University and was a retired Vice President for Business and Finance at Clemson University. He later managed his own consultant business. Mr. Barnette was a member of Clemson First Baptist Church and was a former member of Pendleton First Baptist Church where he served as music director for 28 years.

Survivors include his wife, Frances C. Barnette; daughter, Susan E. Barnette of Rock Hill; son, Todd E. Barnette and wife, Sharon S. Barnette of Anderson; four grandchildren, Elli-Frances Barnette, MeiRose T. Barnette, Clayton E. Barnette and Ethan R. Barnette; and a brother, Calvin Barnette and wife, Bernice of Pendleton.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clemson First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Rusty Brock. Internment will be at Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family is at the residence.
