Anderson, SC - Ruth Wright Whitfield, 90, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

She was born February 26, 1924 in Townville, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Faye Cole Wright. Mrs. Whitfield was a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a former member of the SC Nurses Association and a Fellow in the American College of Nursing Home Administrators. She retired from Ellenburg Nursing Center after 25 years of service. She was a faithful member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a teacher in the Young Adult Sunday School Department for 26 years.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry B. Whitfield and wife, Sue Schumpert Whitfield of Fort Mill, SC and Vic J. Whitfield and wife, Judy McAlister Whitfield of Bradenton, FL; four grandchildren, Mark Whitfield and wife, Melissa of Fort Mill, Tracy Whitfield Gange and husband, Michael of Belmont, NC, Shannon Whitfield of Bradenton, FL, and Shane Whitfield and wife, Melanie of Irmo, SC; seven great grandchildren, Kaleb Daigle, Aimee Daigle, Whitney Daigle Lodholtz, Nicholas Gange , Adam Whitfield, Marissa Whitfield and Niclaus Whitfield; two great-great grandchildren, Aiden and Alexander Lodholtz, all of the greater Charlotte area; and two sisters, Mrs. Marshall (Sudie) King and Mrs. Justin (Carolyn) Whitfield of Anderson.

Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Folger J. "Whit" Whitfield; brother, Edward B. "Bill" Wright; and three sisters, Mrs. L.E. (Juanita) Wright, Mrs. Richard (Virginia) Sheffield and Mrs. William (Maxie) Meredith.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Tony Smith. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
