ANDERSON, SC - William R. Ford,”Pops”, age 86, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. 

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Charlie Isaiah Ford and the late America Stanton Ford.  He was a graduate of Williamston High School.  Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII, earning a Purple Heart resulting specifically from hostile action.  Bill was a member of the VFW and an avid Nascar fan.  He retired as a mechanic.

He is survived by his five sons, Earle, Billy, Dale, Kenny and Tony Ford; a daughter, Linda Purdy; a brother, Martin Ford; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Marie Thomason Ford; and his siblings, John Ford, Helen Perry, Annie Mae Klinger and Franklin Ford. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at The McDougald Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by The Upstate Veterans Honor Guard at 2:30 PM with Reverend Micky Gambrell officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
